Brian01 481 #1 Posted November 20, 2015 Been doing a lot of searching for videos n what-not for a k 90 rebuild. Im wanting to complete disassemble the one I have, and rebuild it. because its either out of time or has a valve sticking, because it sucks through the exhaust side.Just can't seem to find much on the k90, would love to find some videos. RedRanger 1,469 #2 Posted November 20, 2015 Are they much different from a K91? I don't know...just asking.I'd think the K91 might be a good search as well?
Brian01 481 #3 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Yeah basically the same thing...I already tore into mine again and decided it isn't worth it...I'll keep it for parts or sale it for parts....Cant get fire, cam bearings are loose as heck and its outta time, cause its sucking through the exhaust side. I'm just gonna try n find a running k90 Edited November 20, 2015 by Brian01
Brian01 481 #4 Posted November 21, 2015 Still no luck finding much info, instructional videos on the subject...would really like to rebuild this thing n get it running. I know ima need several new parts, coil is shot, cam bearings are loose and rattling. Also gonna need a carb, and who knows what else.

Brian01 481 #6 Posted November 21, 2015 Oh and RedRanger, there are a few differences in 90 and 91... Example : k90 is 3600rpm and 3.6hp k91 is 4000 rpm and 4hp The bore and stroke are the same.
stevasaurus 23,291 #7 Posted November 21, 2015 did you look in the Manuals Section...here is the link to the manual. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/file/26-engine-kohler-k-90-om-ipl-smpdf/

Brian01 481 #9 Posted November 21, 2015 Is it hard to completely disassemble the entire engine? I know I've had it down to nothing but the cam shaft before...how hard is that to get out? Any tricks...the ball bearings are lose in there and will have to be changed. Is it really worth it? Or should I just find another engine?
Shynon 7,482 #10 Posted November 22, 2015 Engine disassembly is pretty straight forward if you have proper tools. As with all Kohlers use the manual and it will take you through it step by step. K series does not have cam bearings, cam runs on a steel rod that can be pushed out the bearing plate side. I don't believe you will find anything other than a standard bore piston and rings I think they are NLA. Crankshaft should have roller bearings they hardly ever go bad. Post up some pics and lets see what you are working with.
Brian01 481 #11 Posted November 22, 2015 X-212-1 those are the ones loose in there....
jimkemp 527 #12 Posted November 22, 2015 Kinda sounds like that one is to far gone , have you checked the cylinder bore to see if its out of round , I just had a k91 bored .020 over because the bore was so bad , at the price for the new piston I am now wondering if it was worth doing mine
Brian01 481 #13 Posted November 22, 2015 Kinda what I'm thinking Jim, I have a buddy that has several k90s and 91s I'm probably just gonna end up putting this one on the back burner and hitting him up for one.
