Drain plug issue

Recommended Posts

Joeyd

So I'm attempting to chain the oil in the trans. The previous owner apparently stripped the drain plug and now I'm stuck trying to figure out what I should do. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance

This is the plug that uses an Allen wrench? With any luck the PO did not clean out the hole so just the outside of the hex hole is damaged. Clean it out real good and tap the wrench in with a hammer to make sure it is well seated and try it. The plug is a tapered pipe thread so it should come loose with a half turn. When you replace it use a thread sealer and just snug for tightness. If you have a hex wrench for 3/8" square drive they tap in straighter than an L shaped wrench.

The plug usually gets mud/dirt in there and with a good cleaning before trying to loosen it, comes out fairly easy.
