workhorse gt1848

I've got a chance to purchase a gt1848.I havent seen it yet,but one of the guys I work with said his uncle has it and has been sitting a couple of years.

I was just wondering when were they made and what to look for.

I already have 2 project tractors working and don't really need another but if the price is right I would consider it.

What kinda price would be fair on this tractor, not running and a small rust hole in the deck.

If I don't get it I will post his asking price and try to get some pictures in case anyone else might be interested.

I just bought one in non-running shape with a good 48" deck this summer for $150.

The GT-1848 was made for 2 years 1982 (#A1-184801) and 1983 (# D1-184801) They both had 18HP Briggs and Stratton twin cylinder engines and Eaton 1100 hydro tranny's with hydraulic lift. They also came from the factory with 23x10.50x12 rear tires on the much sought after 8.5 inch rims.

I'm sure someone on here has one that runs good but most of them had some sort of engine failure (not sure what the problem was) and that makes em kinda hard to find in good running shape. Of course you could always swap in a differant motor.

Got it bought! I had to ask a couple times what he wanted for it and finally said 100. I couldn't pass it up. needs a muffler and probably a carb cleaning bot it's all there. Hopefully I can get it together in the next couple of weeks,I planned on giving to my dad for christmas.

Ever since I started bringin horses home he keeps commenting that he always wanted to get a wheel horse but could never come to spend the money. Now with both parents retired and fixed income, I figured I could at least do this for him.

He will probably only use it to pull the grandkids around the yard but I know he will enjoy that.

If I run into some issues I'm sure everyone here will be helpful, as always.

I would like to know if the attachments are gt specific or if they are interchangable with the rest of the heard.

If possible I would like to find a tiller this if possible.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

The deck on the GT1848 will not fit the 2 tractors in your signature. You need 1973 and up attachments.

Teddy da Bear

Great idea on the Christmas gift.

Now you have to keep it a secret from Dad until then....

He is going to be thrilled.
