Brian1045 28 #4 Posted November 28, 2008 They don't think I'm crazy until I tell them it's a Garden Tractor. I guess if it was a big ole Massey or something it wouldn't be as rare of a thing to do. :hide:
jusjeepn 59 #5 Posted November 28, 2008 Yeah, the guys at work think I'm nuts when I say "tractor". They still regard them as "lawn mowers". When I tell them I have 7 tractors, plows, tillers, a cultivator, a 25 gal weed sprayer, fertilizer spreaders, multiple dozer blades, and grader blade they look at me like I'm :imstupid: , . Then I tell e'm I got 8 mower decks and a lawn roller to do the yards Guess who they call when their "mower" breaks down? :D
Rollerman 290 #6 Posted November 28, 2008 I don't know about restoreing tractors, heck just owning more than a few gets me funny looks. They still regard them as "lawn mowers". I get this a lot too. Just the other day I stoped in on a place I had heard had some vintage garden tractors. When I asked to have a look...the lady said "there are no lawn mowers in there" :hide:
HorseFixer 2,013 #7 Posted November 28, 2008 I get a funny look when I tell people I have 17 horses! They know where I live and they just look at me like I'm :imstupid: cause they know the city would not allow that! When I tell them they are wheel horse tractors they think of full size tractors and I still get a blank stare! :hide:
linen beige 15 #8 Posted November 28, 2008 I got used to the crazy looks a LONG time before I started gathering up 'Horses.
Docwheelhorse 2,740 #9 Posted November 28, 2008 :hide: Try This One---I have a whole yard full of Wheel Horses and parts (probably over 30) & I am having my basement finished, I let the kids draw on the cement walls for historys sake before they framed the new walls. Well I wrote WHEEL HORSE # 1 on the wall in HUGE letters---what did the construction workers say...... "Whats a Wheel Horse"---after walking past at least 5 of them, plus the one hooked up to the cart hauling debris" Yes--I get funny responses from the people at work etc.... Usually with a Quote of "Ummmmm..... its a lawn mower, why have more than 1?" Tony
jerrell 1 #10 Posted November 28, 2008 :hide: You can guess what kind of reaction i get when i mention wheel horse down here in Arkansas, A complete blank stare, i explain it's about 24 years old with no rust and powerful enough to till, bulldoze, plow, AND mow the yard. i even got to carrying a picture of me i copied on the pc. I don't know of another wheel horse owner in Arkansas. But being a proud owner of two wheel horses i brag about mine.. :horseplay:

Michael Bullington 5 #14 Posted November 28, 2008 Yes all the time...but the road trips are fun...we are getting ready to take one to IL and IN..here real soon I would say here in Tennessee 80 percent of the people dont even know what a wheel horse Is But you ever notice all the looks you get going down the interstate with about 6 on the trailer! :horseplay:
bitten 134 #15 Posted November 28, 2008 Most people dont understand my hobbie for old garden tractors that I dont even use to mow the yard with. I tell them that I gave up crack as a hobbie and went to wheel horses instead P.J.

Buzz 502 #19 Posted November 29, 2008 My wife's best friend thinks it the dumbest hobby ever :imstupid: ........ A few weeks ago she was complaining that her husband had just spent $3500 for wheels for his street rod that comes out of the garage twice a year to do local shows unless of course it might rain. Carol laughed and said for $3500 I would have a half-dozen Wheel Horses all fixed up and a trailer to haul them on :hide:
Brrly1 1,146 #20 Posted November 29, 2008 Hey Buzz, You have your lady trained very well. I just wished I could get mine trained like that! What school did you send her too! Burly
pond195520032003 27 #21 Posted November 29, 2008 yea, or dont you think you have enough nope, still have empty spaces or why would you want to collect a garden tractor when you could have a big tractor i tell them, you can get 6 or 7 to 1 per load depending on the trailer and around the same price if selling and some times more so why have a big tractor :omg:
Brrly1 1,146 #22 Posted November 29, 2008 Well I guess I have it pretty bad then somebody better send a doc over ASAP. Probably tomorrow I will be headed west again to the State of Illinois to pick up a few tractors about a 6 hr drive. Just gonna be kind of a leasurely drive no big hurry, just get there and back. I was considering going on home to see my Mom and sisters. I don't think that will happen though. I'll hang out with Garry for a day or so. From what I understand Garry is going to be needing surgery here real soon with a triple hernia and its kind of scary because it could tie up his intestines and possibly be fatal. So I might hang out for a day or two and see if he can get this knocked out while I am there. From what he told me this is an outpatient thing, depending on what they find when they get in there. And then head on back to Ohio and see how much snow we got. Hopefully there will be something to play in. This is not the first trip and undoubtly it won't be the last to get a Wheel Horse (of course) I have made many trips back to the west for tractors all the way up too a D-250 down to a 57rj many trips have been made. I really can't say how many trips I have done, but well over a dozen, probably closer to two dozen. Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia and of course all over Ohio chasin' down tractors. I have been to the Big show in Pa, twice now and am planning a third trip this next summer. The last show was great and hoping this next one will be just as good as the GT14 is the feature tractor. Yes thats my favorite!! I am losing site as to what we where actually talking about but travel does not scare me at all!!! And as far as my friends go they all basically think that I have lost all my marbles. Why you say! I gave up riding a beautiful H.D. and ended up playing with tractors. Oh well!!! Sorry so long but you asked and I responded See Ya Burly
Teddy da Bear 11 #23 Posted November 29, 2008 People that know how many I have always ask... "Why do you "need" so many tractors?"
charger10us 1 #24 Posted November 30, 2008 My Wife & I just got back from Ohio, & the reason for going was to pick up a P.T.O. driven roto-tiller for the D-200. Crazy maybe, But now I have one!! Motel room $67.84 Truck fuel $136.00 driving time 14 hrs. miles 786 ROTO-TILLER PRICLESS !!!!
MaineDad 87 #25 Posted November 30, 2008 For some reason people think less of this hobby because they are small tractors. If it's not an old Farmall or something it's not as worthy. I too could really care less what people think. I like what I do and that's all that matters :hide:
