artfull dodger 440 #1 Posted November 1, 2015 I am looking to get back into Wheelhorse's and have a 552 with mower deck offered for my beater JD 140h3. I am not a huge fan of Tecumseh engines but not closed minded to them either. Tractor ran when parked last year, he robbed the carb off of her but has a replacement to go with the tractor. Has good narrow front tires and good narrow ag tires on the rear. I have been out of the WH loop for awhile so I dont know thier value very well. I know what my 140h3 is worth in its current shape. artfull dodger 440 #4 Posted November 1, 2015 I guess I am looking for opinions on the tecumseh engine, decent or prone to major issues. artfull dodger 440 #7 Posted November 2, 2015 (edited) I am guessing 400-600 in its current shape,(probably worth a tad more if parted out), runs great, needs paint job and new front tires, has no attachments. I will try and post pics later. I believe the one that has her lives up in Plymouth IN and is a member here I believe. He says I have been there before, so I am guessing thats who it is, 574 area code number. Problem is, I have no way to go get it and take mine there. I wouldnt trust my truck beyond the city limits and our car(which has a hitch) is having head gasket issues again. artfull dodger 440 #10 Posted November 2, 2015 LOL! I wont quite that far but I have found thier carbs are tempermental at best. Kind of like the later walbro carbs on Kohlers that are best dealt with by replacement with a Carter. Tractor is more of a butt buggie at tractor shows, maybe a couple plow days and play time in the winter. I have my big blade on my pickup to clear the drive, cant trust the old truck very far from home, but she can still clean off my driveway. I have very little in the 140 having done some trading to get her. I am out of funds to get it on its feet and I need a tractor to haul firewood this winter. The 140 is also really to big for my needs. Only Tecumseh engines I want to avoid are the ones with the CDI ignition system. Went thru that whole mess with a Sears GT. artfull dodger 440 #13 Posted November 2, 2015 I have had a couple pull start Horses myself over the years. One was a 853 roller that I stuck a recoil start Honda off a scrapped pressure washer.
