k181 stalls under load

I have a k181 it runs fine at idle but give it gas too fast and it stalls. If I manage to get it to throttle up the second I put any load on it it stalls right out. I just had the carb off to clean it. I put a new coil on it. cleaned the points. I put a new spark plug in. I am running it off of a gravity feed. Its got 110psi of compression. I am thinking its an issue with the governor I have tried adjusting it to no avail. I am sort of at a loss here. I was if any one has had this issue or has and advice. Thanks

Check the carb bolts , the carb gasket, and the throttle plate stem for air leakage.

I am thinking the gravity feed may be the problem. When you cleaned the carb. did you also install a new needle and seat?

The needle and seat, gasket and o-ring and float are only a few months old. Pulled the carb this am just to see if there was something plugged. Found some sediment so I cleaned it and put it back on. But still stalled.

I had symptoms like that and it turned out to be a point gap problem.
Try cleaning and adjusting the points to spec.

I checked the points gap which was spot on tried again same thing. I was left with one thing, the gravity feed. I hooked the fuel pump all back up fired it up and the problem was gone. so 953 nut you were right. Thanks for the help!!

Wasn't getting enough fuel, eh? On engines that have a fuel pump, they are there for a reason, usually won't run on gravity feed. I know its odd but true. :D

For example my RJ58 has an 8hp Briggs, strictly gravity feed, if it gets low on gas, will run but cut out, spit n sputter, etc. And You can look at the inline filter n see a big air bubble in it. (Not getting enough fuel) your inline filter, if you have onone, should be full of gas at all times.
