kingnothing71us 108 #1 Posted October 24, 2015 Hey guys, it's me again. I started to take apart my deck to find out why it's making so much noise when I use it. The double pulley has some play in it so I'd like to take it off. There's no nut or bolt in the center, just a big glob of weld. I'm hoping the weld is supposed to be there but my common sense tells me it's not. Can someone PLEASE tell me how this pulley comes off? I hope it's just pressed on but I doubt it. Heres a pic of the weld inside of the pulley.
doc724 925 #2 Posted October 24, 2015 Every deck I have seen tells me that the weld is not supposed to be there and the pulleys are slip fit. Either way, you are going to need a new pulley $$ and a new spindle and bearings. I would start with a Sawzall and slip it between the two pulleys and cut it in half and then assess the situation. daveoman1966 3,841 #3 Posted October 24, 2015 There would never be a factory weld there. Someone has tried to repair either the pulley or the shaft and now both are probably toast. It could be one of three pulleys... Double D, 3/4 with Key, or 5/8 w/pout key. If it is Double D, there will be a dome washer holding the blade on. If not, not. I don't have DD pulley for you, but I do have the complete DD spindle assembly. If it isn't DD, then I have either of the center pulley and matching spindle housings. my direct email link for parts is here:daveoman@windstream.net
kingnothing71us 108 #4 Posted October 24, 2015 Thanks for the help. I guess I'll be working on a way to get the parts or a deck in better shape than mine. Think I'll sell my Cub Cadet to buy a Wheel Horse parts. Sounds like a good idea to me.
daveoman1966 3,841 #5 Posted October 25, 2015 Unless you can find a small cut-off wheel to grind out / away that weld, you'll probably have the cut the spindle shaft between the double pulley to get it apart. Keep me in mind for any replacement parts...or the whole spindle and pulley(s).
kingnothing71us 108 #6 Posted October 25, 2015 I sure will. How much for the whole spindle & double pulley? I also need the spacers for the idler pulley bracket that allows the bracket to slide. If you need pics of what I'm trying to explain I'll send them. Thanks.
