Damtrucker 14 #1 Posted October 23, 2015 Bought set of chains that wouldn't tighten up as well as I wanted. Bought this little turnbuckle for .99 and not coming loose.

shallowwatersailor 3,214 #4 Posted October 23, 2015 Are the chains too long for the tires? Can you remove a link or two? Careful that you don't rip the sidewall with the head of the bolt. Chains do move on the tires.
Damtrucker 14 #5 Posted October 23, 2015 They just wouldn't get tight and my tires are on the bottom of the "will fit range" I was tempted to cut them but will be getting bigger tires eventually. I took them out on dirt road today and they stayed put pretty good, but I will keep an eye out on that bolt head doing damage.
KC9KAS 4,744 #6 Posted October 23, 2015 Very good idea!Chains (especially new ones) will stretch and loosen up with use, so do keep an eye on them.
squonk 43,609 #7 Posted October 23, 2015 I use black HD nylon wire / cable ties to snug up chains and they won't hurt the tire.
Fun Engineer 859 #8 Posted October 23, 2015 Did you try installing the chains with the air let out out of the tires? That always worked for me. It gives you just enough room to really snug them down when you air them back up. If your intent on saving the side links for a bigger pair of tires then your going to need to use wire or zip ties as mentioned earlier to keep them from coming loose and beating your fender to pieces. DougC 2,643 #9 Posted October 23, 2015 I have 1 chain that goes right on and fits tight on either tire I put it on. The other chain fights me every year even with the air pressure bled down...... I just may try something like that myself. The old knees dont like being on the cement floor these days...
