Dkphillips 22 #1 Posted October 22, 2015 Today was my lucky day. The first thing I did today was look at Craigslist postings for Wheel Horse items. In the last few weeks I have been looking for a snow plow for a Lawn Ranger that I have been restoring. But today the first thing I saw on the Wheel Horse search was a C145 with a snow plow, Wheel Horse wheel weights and chains...no deck but I don't need a deck. And I bought the whole darned thing for the same money that I had seen a Lawn Ranger snow plow listed. WOW. And the good part is a few years ago I had a C145 with a deck and a snow plow so I know how well they work in the snow. I cannot believe how much snow can be pushed around with one of those things. Maybe tomorrow I will remember to take some photos of the C145 and post them.

Sparky-(Admin) 23,157 #4 Posted October 22, 2015 You lucky dog... I've been wanting one of them too. Really....another one ? You already have two Black-Hoods. You got it bad man (in a good way!) I just sold an 8 speed Black-Hood a month ago but if I was to come across an Auto with hydraulic lift I would be real tempted.Mike..........
tunahead72 2,546 #5 Posted October 22, 2015 ... Maybe tomorrow I will remember to take some photos of the C145 and post them ... Don't worry, we won't let you forget. By the way, I saw your ad in the classifieds here, looking for a fender for this tractor. I don't know a lot about them, but you can replace the plastic fender with a metal one, from a later 300/400/500 series tractor I believe. Just thought I'd mention it as another option for you, hopefully somebody else will come along with more details.
Dkphillips 22 #6 Posted October 22, 2015 Thanks Ed for the suggestion. I did not realize that there were options for the plastic part. Never did understand why someone like Wheel Horse, that built such heavy duty tractors, would make a plastic part especially in the area where it could get hit so easily!DougAnd for Mike...it is an automatic. The only way to go with a snow plow is the hydraulic. When you get to be my age anything that helps get things up is an advantage!

Dkphillips 22 #8 Posted October 27, 2015 Hopefully there are photos of my new acquisition (C145) in this post. I have been having lots of trouble getting photos to post. As you can see I am in need of a new fender section and have been discussing this problem with another member.
Sparky-(Admin) 23,157 #9 Posted October 27, 2015 Which hydro does it have? The first half of 1980 the C-145 came with the Sundstrand hydro....then mid-way thru 1980 they switched over to the Eaton 1100. If you don't know take a look at the hydro filter, if it points to the side its the Sundstrand, if it points towards the rear of the machine its the Eaton 1100. I don't know what you paid but it looks to be in very good shape!Mike.........
Dkphillips 22 #10 Posted October 27, 2015 The filter points to the rear. And I just purchased a new filter today and plan to change the hydro oil tomorrow. Hopefully I got a correct filter. Do you happen to know the Fram filter number.? I paid an outrageous amount for the tractor with blade, weights and chains...$250!!!!!! I bought it as soon as I saw it on Craigslist. The seller said he had very many inquiries but I was first so I lucked out. I had a C145 for over 25 years and just had to have this one. Do you happen to know the Fram filter number.? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I've never heard anyone talk about a FRAM filter for the hydros. Be very careful, the wrong filter could cause major problems. I would return the FRAM and buy either a TORO/Wheel Horse filter from a dealer or there is also a NAPA filter and a WIX filter that guys on here rave about.Mike..........
slammer302 2,156 #13 Posted October 27, 2015 I agree with Sparky on the filter but my dad has been using a FRAM oil filter not hydraulic filter on his charger10 for quiet awhile and hasn't had any problems YET i personally have been using the WIX filter because its what i can find local
squonk 43,825 #14 Posted October 27, 2015 FRAM FILTERS ARE JUNK!!! STAY AWAY!! Napa 1410 or Wix or Baldwin.

ACman 7,655 #16 Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) I'm with everyone on this one too , fram is junk . Car quests filters are a wix filter , first 2 numbers are different. Edited October 27, 2015 by ACman Spelling
squonk 43,825 #17 Posted October 27, 2015 I posted a pic of the Fram cut open next to a Napa filter. Now it's gone?
WHX?? 51,756 #19 Posted October 27, 2015 I'm lost here Mike ...what is junk about them? Looks like they arn't quite as pleated as the others so??? I was always a fram guy but just because they seemed to always have the fitment and the selection...at least at my farm & barns stores....
bmsgaffer 2,053 #20 Posted October 27, 2015 More pleats = more surface area = better flow and more filtration. You can tell how few the fram has compared to the other two. A buddy of mine has had 2 fram filters disintegrate and get in his (car) engine, first one he thought was a fluke, second one toasted his engine.
squonk 43,825 #21 Posted October 27, 2015 Look at the end caps on the Fram. They are cardboard!
