Flag (aka lift rod assembly) for the lift arm and maybe an assist spring if the flag you get will accommodate it.  Also a cable for the chute direction control and clamps for the cable

Parts manual is here

Looks like you'll also need a new belt and belt tension spring.

got the flag and the spring coming.  now looks like I need a deal to turn the chute.  anyone have a picture of one that is correctly "wired"

My Allis chalmers just uses a 1/4" braided rope on one and a wire cable on the other.

This 1978 manual is a much better copy for the cable wrapping procedure.
http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/file/40-snowthrower-42in-1978-86-42st01-om-ipl-snpdf/

I faced my chute forward and added a couple of extra wraps on the spool and can blow the snow over my shoulder. Much more than a 180 degree turn of the chute.

I used 1/8" galvanized wire rope often called aircraft cable but it is not stainless steel and available at good hardware stores by the foot off a spool. Oil it up a couple of times during the winter and it has never rusted. I don't know how long the plastic covered wire rope would last.

garry do you remember how much you bought?

I downloaded the 3 pages regarding the way to loop the cable on the chute.  thanks for that info.

No don't know the length. Will try to get it over the weekend.

You got me guessing on the size now. It may be 3/32". Try a drill bit in the hole in the spool to see what you can get through it. I've used all sizes up to 3/8" so could be wrong on the 1/8".

Whipper Snipper.....sounds much better than string trimmer.  Is that .095" dia Don.

I have a gear drive tall chute now, but when I had the short chute blowers, I searched for thin cable and finally ended up buying a spool of picture hanging cable.  It worked OK, but tended to kink and was not easy to install.
And to think I had several spools of the "WHIPPER SNIPPER" hanging right by the blower and didn't think to use it.  I even have a spool of red.
