Hotel D-160, These critters checked into the wrong hotel

Recommended Posts

Went to run my D-160 after sitting since last year and found the following in the engine compartment.
There were about 6 mice and the tins were packed with grass.

They sure do like it behind those Tins. Glad they didn't get any wiring.

I had traps set up all spring and summer and not one in the barn. As soon as the temps dropped I got 2 of those buggers.

I  have several GT's in a "portable garage" that isn't rodent or critter proof.
The neighborhood cats spent time in the garage, but I can deal with that as long as they keep the mice under control!

The same thing happened to me with my 212-6 last year! For some reason if i let my 212 sit for more than a week they get into the shroud of it! These mice sure love wheel horses!

I've had those furry critters pack mufflers with acorns before.Looked like a gattlin gun when I started it.Must be trillions of mice in this world.

Mice, vols, chipmunks; one of those species cost me almost $1500 last year -- Somehow they got all the way into the heat exchange compartment (from the engine compartment) of my Ford Ranger and pack it full of their nest material -- My shop had to completely dismantle the dash and then go into the engine compartment to get all of these goodies out -- My truck had lost all ability to heat or cool because lack of air flow thru there

Do you all remember that cartoon character from the 60's (I think) whose tag line was "I hate to mices to pieces".  Seems like may apply here.

Has anyone tried dryer sheets, moth balls or both or something else with a strong odor?
I use dryer sheets in the cars I have stored and they seem to work well.
I also purchase a few large all aluminum snow mobile trailers instead of building a barn.
They have ramps on the back and on the front.
They close up very tight compared to a building.
If I can ever reduce my heard I can then sell the trailers as well.
No annual real estate tax or maintenance is another advantage.

The only thing that will keep the mices in pieces and outta yer horses is *******. Now I ain't a big cat fan but when the mices threatened to kick me out of my own house I drew the line and got me some farm cats. End of story. I shouldn't complain I make good money repairing ac's messed up by mice.

Them trailers ain't mouse proof Jack.... I better come hook up to one with the horses in it.  chain lol

How many trailers do you have?

I have 3 large 8 foot wide trailers, one is 8 X 12, and two are 8 X 20 not including the extra space up front with the V front.
They have ramps on the back and front for drive in drive out if desired.
All three are all aluminum with double axles. No steel to rust, rot or paint. The brands are Renegade and Sno Pro.
I then have about 4 regular clam shell type snow mobile trailers and 1 single wide.
I look for good deals and grab them when I see them,
The clam shells are OK but I prefer ones with wing doors front and back and with the V front so you can drive on and drive off.
Like the one below. I also have a nice Hyland single wide that I can use if bad weather or if I have a snow blower on the tractor or if I want to protect one of my trailer queens while traveling. I paid $600 for it and it is really well built. I have a 520 HC in it currently.

Is that a Roadmaster in the background?

Great idea and use for the trailers.

I once used a 24 ft truck body, placed on railroad ties. I'd open the doors and run the engines once 'n awhile to cook the acorns.

The mice up here just use those dryer sheets to build a more comfortable nest! Doesn't matter which kind they are, tried quite a few different brands with the same result.

I would not drive anything else.
I have several Mercedes cars that i do not even drive anymore.
It rides like a Cadillac and pulls like a truck.
GM put modified Corvette engines in those from 1994 to 1996.
Mine is a 1996 Wagon and has all the options.
The last of the big all American Wagons.
It has a 4 speed overdrive transmission so I can get decent gas mileage when not towing.
Not so good when towing.
That wagon and a landscape trailer beats a truck any day for my money.
The perfect horse hauler.
However, it is a dangerous combination.

Every good deal seems to wind up on my trailer.

General Motor is famous for having a great vehicle or group of vehicles and just quit making them. I think the 96 Chevy Impala SS was one of the great Impala so they quit producing them. I don't think GM has any rear wheel drives left except overseas. Just like Toro screwed up the Wheel Horse line. Have a great product with a consumer following then F it up and stop producing all together.
