N3PUY 1,031 #1 Posted October 5, 2015 (edited) HELP! I just got this Ranger 800 for the grandson.... BUT there's no spark. I don't understand the wiring of the Tecumseh motor model TVM195. There's 2 wires on the right side, RED with a fuse and a Green. On the left side there are 2 wires, one goes to the ground contact on the throttleand the other is just hanging there with a bullet type connector. Since there is a ground switch on the throttle I'm thinking this is a replacement motor. There is a safety switch on the clutch linkage but no wires go to it. Looks like the tractor has been nicely rewired. So if I knew what the motor wires were for I could probably get it running. Where can I get the wiring diagrams for the tractor and motor?TNX,Joe Edited October 5, 2015 by N3PUY rt vs lt
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,393 #2 Posted October 5, 2015 Don't think we have wiring diagrams for either. The TVM195 is definitely not original to the tractor. This wiring diagram is appropriate for a TVM220 so may be some help.http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/file/679-tractor-1982-lt-series-wiring-detailed-492-4207pdf/What is the model number of the tractor? Should be an aluminum ID plate on it somewhere.Garry
953 nut 59,338 #3 Posted October 5, 2015 Judging by your statement I presume you have done this but, have you disconnected the ground wire on the throttle plate and tried to start it?
Howie 899 #4 Posted October 6, 2015 From the looks of that engine, I would say there is a set of points under that flywheel along with a condenser. I would do what is suggested above and pull that wire from the throttle plate and see if it will fire.David
N3PUY 1,031 #5 Posted October 6, 2015 Well, I had to see what was under the flywheel ......... annd it is ........... POINTS & CONDENSER! Wahoo! Way to go HOWIE! I know how to work on those. I was worried it was one of those expensive Tecumseh electronic ignitions since it had all those wires coming from under the flywheel. Besides points there was more under the flywheel ... see that small tan thing ... baby mouse. Now at the kitchen table you can see where the 4 wires go.... one to the charging coil and three to the points! WHY three ? One will be enough when it goes back together. Anyone know what the resistance of the coil should be? This one is 7820 ohms spark plug to ground. And primary is 1.5 ohms.
Howie 899 #6 Posted October 7, 2015 I would just keep the one that runs to the ignition switch. The one picture showed one to the throttle plate, that one not needed. Can't answerabout the ohms on the coil, I have a coil and condenser tester I always used. Had different readings on the meter.Coils do go bad sometimes but a lot of times new points and condenser takes care of it. Might as well check it out now.David
N3PUY 1,031 #7 Posted October 7, 2015 IT RUNS! It runs but needs carb work. I replaced only the points and removed the extra wires. Started right up but the carb needs gone over. The float bowl was clean so I didn't mess with it. Tomorrow is another day.
N3PUY 1,031 #8 Posted October 8, 2015 (edited) This evening I removed the low speed jet and sprayed carb cleaner into it. That may have helped .... after adjusting both the low and high speed needles it will now idle in 3rd gear up hill. It actually runs pretty good though noisy. Don't think we have wiring diagrams for either. The TVM195 is definitely not original to the tractor. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,393 #9 Posted October 9, 2015 (edited) See if there is a plate on the transmission.1972 used a Peerless model 6171973 used a Peerless model 635GarryThe 600-Series should have the number stamped into the front of the case around where the shifter goes into it.
