pfrederi 18,725 #1 Posted October 2, 2015 Tired of hooking and unhooking plows and blowers and putting on/removing chains and weights my two primary winter tractors went into the shed today. They will come down in late Nov/Dec for snow season then back to the shed to rest over the summer. The Elctro is really an now an Electro 16, needed more Hp for the blower. The Charger 12 was given to me for free and had sat in a barn for years. Cleaned the carb new spark plug and she ran great. All original except for 2 leaky hydro lines I replaced. (and the 2 stupid duck decals) She came with snow blower, and mower deck with the old style mule drive. In my opinion the 10 pinion rear end in these two horses is the absolute best thing for snow duty. The limited slip lets them really push snow. i have had plows and blowers on everything from an L-107 to a 418A and these old horses beat them all.I know they aren't as pretty as most but they are mechanically sound.. to quote Donald Sutherland from the Dirty Dozen "Very pretty, Colonel, Very pretty, But, can they fight? " These horse can fight snow
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,362 #2 Posted October 2, 2015 Very nice machines , I like the rear weights , why spend money when you have used weight lifting equipment.
c-series don 10,181 #3 Posted October 2, 2015 Nice, I have two dedicated horses and it's nice to be able to leave them hooked up and ready to rock!

DennisThornton 4,771 #7 Posted October 2, 2015 This is the ONLY way to go! Winter is not the time to be changing implements and to do what I think is a proper job you really need both! Now to get my rotary brush going!

I told my son his weight bench has taken up space in my basement long enough. If he doesn't get them soon, they will be nice chrome rear weights

Winter is not the time to be changing implements and to do what I think is a proper job you really need both! Now to get my rotary brush going! Believe me that was the first dedicated WH i had. DennisThornton 4,771 #10 Posted October 2, 2015 Yeah that's got to be the cat's meow for light snows and the last pass cleanup! Not so much in December or early January but I find that if I can get the mid Jan, Feb and March Sun to some of the drive, at least here and there, it will "burn" off what's left and leave me a perfectly clear gravel drive! I got tired of breaking ankles with only one time! Perhaps I've became sort of a fanatic about keeping the drive clear! What do you think about the electric clutch for this application? And oh! I just noticed! M37? M274? Man I have always wanted an Army Jeep! And some of those all wheel drive trucks look awesome!
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,362 #11 Posted October 2, 2015 Paul , always wanted to ask what is a M37 and M274 ? Got any pictures?Dennis Like the sweeper and the rear weight . What is the cables running across the hood. From the picture I could not tell where the cable connected on the dash.
JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,499 #12 Posted October 2, 2015 I bet that sweeper would do a heck of a job on the kitchen floor to. I am always piping off to the kids, get a plate, quit dropping stuff on the floor. Lolglenn

I do not like the electric clutch as engagement is rather harsh, however the motor in her is a KT17 from a JD 317. JD didn't spec ball bearings on the crank and only used sleeve bearings which cannot handle the end loading o a WH manual PTOThe wire bundle is to control the electric linear lift that raises the sweeper...wish it was hydraulic as the electric is slow to respond....The M274 is a Truck Platform, 1/2 ton aka a MuleThe M37 is the 3/4 ton w/winch. The M35A2 in the Picture belongs to my neighbor but I am the support maintenance for it

Really like the mule! Nah, I like 'em all! Neat mule! You lost me on the bushing and bearings for a minute but now I think I understand. The PTO is pushing against the crank pushing against the bearings, which will take some of that force but with bushings there's nothing there to push against! Yes? papaglide 542 #20 Posted October 3, 2015 Nice , heavy duty machines! The tractors and the trucks !Is the electric clutch an easy swap from the manual one?
pfrederi 18,725 #21 Posted October 3, 2015 (edited) One of the crankshaft sleeve bearings used in the JD spec KT17s had a small lip that helped keep the crank shaft in position laterally but no way would it handle the end pressure created by a PTO...at least not for very long.If you have the bracket highlighted the installation of the electric PTO is very easy.
