elixir20 1 #1 Posted September 29, 2015 Hi folks,Just found out that the internal governor in my K181 is shot. WH dealer is suggesting a price in the $500-$700 range to fix. I love my 854 but ....Are there any other motors that would be an easy retrofit in order to keep the 854 running?Thx,Adam

rmaynard 16,343 #3 Posted September 29, 2015 Find out from the dealer what part of the governor is broken. The gear with fly-weights usually doesn't break, however the cross shaft sometimes comes apart. It's will cost much less to repair it if you are willing to do it yourself.
953 nut 60,241 #4 Posted September 29, 2015 For that kind of money you could go to Northern Tools and buy a new Honda electric start with a 3 year guarantee. Bob is right, these little Kohlers are tough as nails and well worth your effort. They are reasonably easy to work on and presuming this is the only problem you will just need the replacement parts, a few gaskets and a few hours of work. Manuals are on this site to download and lots of folks who will help out if you have questions.
