Sickle Mower Owners/Parts Manual

Recommended Posts

Hi. I just picked up a SWMS 425 sickle bar and need a manual and parts list for it. I found one on this forum for the SMS 505 but not the 425. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Thank you for pointing that manual out. I do have another question. I have looked at this manual and some for other reel mowers and none have the parts diagram for the front half parts ie; the blades, shaft, bearings, lower bar, upper blade, wheels, etc. Is there anyone who has a complete manual and parts diagram for these mowers? I have no experience with the reel mower and maybe the things that are missing are chalked up to common knowledge but I don't have any common knowledge on these yet.

I have attached two drawings that highlight what I am referring to as what is missing. Basically everything up front. And one more question: in the photo, on the blade guard tat has the Wheel Horse decal there are two slots cut into the guard on the left and right. What are they for? I was guessing that they are to fasten an extended guard to prevent getting a face full of dirt when hitting mole hills.

Thanks again for all of the help.

Hello, again. I need to get this unit apart but due to the rust making everything look like one piece I am hesitant to start pounding on things. All I need is for someone to advise me how to disassemble the front end. I want to remove the blades but cannot see through the corrosion.

I assume that the blade assembly is not permanently fixed to the driveshaft and should slide out somehow? If not, I don't see how to separate the mower halves to replace bearings, etc. Can someone enlighten me?

Last question today - how do I go about sharpening the rotating blades and the fixed blade? Again, thanks for your help.

Can't help with the disassembly.  As to sharpening..I have an Eclipse reel mower jut like the one my father had 60 years ago.  To dress thee blades you lengthened the cahin and used a add on sprocket. Rerouting the chain made the reel run backwards Then you put valve grinding compound all over the blades and ran it back wards. I am looking for the sprocket to put on mine...
Not sure how you could get yours to spin backwards..maybe rig up an electric motor with pulley to your drive belt and see???>
The extra sprocket went in the loop just above the existing chain drive
