pfrederi 18,708 #1 Posted September 27, 2015 Hooked my snow blower to my Electro 16 (has old style manual PTO 8-3111). Blower spins at high speed with PTO disengaged. There is almost 1/8" clearance between PTO Bell and the friction plate. The old PTO had no brake. The PTO is well lubed and spins freely on the crankshaft. Didn't have this issue when i used the blower a few years ago on a Charger 12 with the same PTO.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,512 #2 Posted September 27, 2015 Sounds like a good indicator that the snowthrower bearings are in good shape. There is nothing to stop it from turning if the pto bearings are good.Garry
Ed Kennell 42,114 #3 Posted September 27, 2015 Any friction in the PTO needle bearing will cause the PTO to spin while declutched. It may need cleaned and relubed.
wallfish 18,194 #4 Posted September 27, 2015 Seems like you have the blower lubed and spinning so free there is not much resistance. Adding a PTO brake may be the solution.

I had just looked at the needle bearing and put some grease on it. Pulling it off now and trying to spin it with my finger found a lot of resistance inspite of all the grease.
Ed Kennell 42,114 #6 Posted September 27, 2015 Great Paul...If it wasn't hot or squealing a clean and relube will probably save it.
