Setting timing on KT-17?

Recommended Posts

What is the "formula" for points setting to advance/retard timing on a KT-17? More open advances, more closed retards? or viceyversy?

My C-175 is hard to start giving indications timing is too early. Reckon points opening can help with this or a mechanical setting needed (which I AM NOT familiar with)

Its been for sale and have a possible buyer coming to looksee Sat or Sun so needless to say I'd like for it to behave (the engine is in excellent condition and runs really good once started)

I take the whole engine shroud off and chalk mark the timing mark on the flywheel. Just adjust your points from there to make sure they are on.
The KT is a bi#*@ to start if you are losing your prime to your fuel pump. My C-175 does this if it sits longer than two/three days.
As long as your fuel shut off isn't bad, try closing it after you run it each time. An inline check valve is also a good idea. If it's hard to start in between runs during the same day, then your points could be the culprit or a bad condenser/weak coil/bad plug wire(s)/etc. :< )
