JimD 3,347 #1 Posted November 22, 2008 i was pretty excited this morning to see 10 inches of snow in the driveway cause i've been dying to use the c-85 with the snowblower. fired her up and let it warm up. ok, time to do it. this is going to be my first time using a blower. so away i go out the garage and across the drive. it's moving it but i'm not impressed. revved her up to full throttle and made the turn down the drive. still not impressed. this 8 hp kohler smokes quite a bit so i thinks she' just losing some power. got about 30 feet down the drive, ( very slow going which i expected ) and off comes the belt. keep in mind this is 9:00 am, and karen has a hair appointmment at 10:00 am. ( never, ever make your wife late for a hair appointment ) now what do i do? well, ill tell ya. get it back in the garage and outta the way, jump on the b-60 with the plow and hit the ground runnin. plowed the drive in 3rd high in about 30 minutes. her hair looks great! i bought the c-85 2 years ago with the blower and the deck for a 100 bucks. got it running and used a it few times with a wagon, and dragging limbs, etc. was worried about blowing the engine bacause of all the smoke, and i'm talkin freight train here, but it runs and sounds really good. i think i'll try to find a bigger engine for ths tractor, rebuild the 8 horse and keep it for a spare for one of the others and try it again next year. the blower needs some additional work. any advice? thanks, jim. Sparky-(Admin) 23,147 #5 Posted November 22, 2008 I think an 8hp motor is kinda small for a blower, not to mention that yours sounds like its a bit tired. I have never used a blower on anything less than 12 hp, and am currently set up on a 16hp Onan, and have had good results. The belt should be on the outer pto pulley to line up right. Maybe yours was on the inner pulley and thats why it was thrown off > Mike.........
JimD 3,347 #6 Posted November 22, 2008 sparky, the whole shaft moved over a pully width due to a lost roll pin. that's why i say it will need more work. it's just too cold with no heat in the garage to fix it now. ten tears ago i would have, but at 57, i just can't hack it out there. i agree about the 8 hp being too small, too. i don't think it will genetate the rpm's needed to make throw. gotta find that engine. would like a 14 hp. jim
Teddy da Bear 11 #7 Posted November 22, 2008 It should do as good if not better than my 6hp Ranger and blower. It will throw snow 40 + feet/
