Hauled home a 417A

Recommended Posts

Sparky

Picked up this grubby nasty 417A today. I have no intentions of keeping it and it will be in the classifieds soon, but it was a good deal, not a great deal but a good one.
Came with a 48" plow that is in good shape minus the paint and does not have the wear bar ground away like most. Also came with a 42RD deck that seems to have good quiet spindles but has a nasty rot hole :( . Has WH plastic wheel weights...question...did the plastic weights only come in one size? These seem to stick out really far, but maybe that's how they are. I don't have any to compare them to.
It runs but not great, I may have to give the carb a scubbin, the tranny seems fine and the hydraulic lift works.
Pics of course.....

Nice mike! i always wanted to drive a 417..How many hours on it?

It has an hour meter and it reads well over 3000 hours. I'm pretty sure its not the original meter and I doubt the hours are correct. But don't get me wrong...its not a low hour machine  !

Looks like an original, one owner tractor.

It is a one owner. Came with a pile of receipts and paperwork. It came from a dealer right in the town where I got it (Mystic Ct.)

The key word you used Craig was "passing".....the owner had passed away and I bought this at an estate sale.

Nice Mike! I love my 417's and my C-175. Something about those KT engines I guess!

Not a terribly bad looking 417 Mike. How many hours on it? Looks like you may have a little hydro fluid leak on the left side but not too bad yet. BTW, I have only one set of the plastic weights and they stick out just like yours. Its too easy to hit something and crack the plastic with then sticking out that far. Good thing is JB Weld will repair the damage.

I second considering keeping it. I picked up 2 of these tractors in April in similar shape. My deal also included a 48" plow, 42 rd deck, and one tracker also reads over 3000 on the he meter which I believe to be from leaving the key in the on position accidentally. I was trying to get that one started for the first time and I accidentally left the key on with a very dead battery and it put another 40 hrs on the meter!!!
The other tractor has been my main mowing machine this summer and I have been extremely happy with it. Very stout machine with lots of power. If u were closer I would want to pick that one up if u decide to sell it even though I really really need to stop considering more tractors lol.
If you look around here and find some pics of these tractors in nice shape it may change your mind because they sure are good looking tractors when shined up and pretty. Same platform as the 420LSE.

The weights I have stick out that far as well. Although instead of hex head bolts, I used carriage bolts from the inside so I have a washer, lock washer, nut and some thread sticking out as well. Pain in the butt when I'm mowing close to everything. I've thought about swapping for some slotted head bolts so I don't have to worry about it, but instead got a new string trimmer so I can give obstacles a wide berth.

Mike, in this case I really like "grubby and nasty"!  I'd be happy with it!  A 417A is on my want list.  My list is on pause for a while though...

I've seen a lot of what I think are good deals in CT!  You from there or move there for the deals? :D

Well, perhaps your parents were collectors or knew you would be!  :D  Seriously, I follow Craigs Listing from NY to the Atlantic and CT gets me the most excited!  Made one trip but I really try not to go that far...  You at the Meet and Great today?
