oldtin 921 17 #1 Posted September 16, 2015 Got a 1980 D160 and had to rebuild the carb and install a new float to get it to run. {been sitting for years} Marvel Schebler carb. Started up and ran for about 1 minute and sputtered and spit gas out of the carb and stalled. If I let it sit it will start and run for a minute and do the same thing. About to put it on CL and be done with agravation. Always wanted a D but if this is the way they are I'll stick with the Kohler powered machines. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Maybe the float and float needle are not cutting the fuel off and the fuel pump is over driving the carburetor causing the engine to flood?Letting it dry out may allow it to restart until it re floods. pacer 3,177 #3 Posted September 17, 2015 I think Jack might have an idea there - youre giving a pretty good description of flooding, and that is either caused by the needle sticking open or the float has filled with gas. If you didnt replace the needle/seat when you replaced the float then that is a likely candidate --- sitting up is hard on a needle (along with about everything in the fuel system!!) The wire that holds the needle to the float is not the same as the one I replaced,so I swapped the wire and put the carb back together and she fired right up and purrs like a kitten!! 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
