Horse46 519 #1 Posted September 16, 2015 My C-101 has a good brake when applied going forward, but I can't seem to get it hold on the park brake or if on an incline going backwards, any ideas? It all worked before my refresh, and the only thing I can think that may have affected it was when I removed the engine and the drive belt. pfrederi 18,638 #2 Posted September 16, 2015 Band brakes, as used on WHs, will never stop as well going backwards as they do forward. (That is why car maker dropped them back in the 1920s) Going forward the band brakes are to an extent self energizing, they try to wrap themselves tighter. Going back ward they are fighting you, trying to loosen.Parking brake is a matter of adjustment. My Father purchased my L-107 new in 1967. In 48 years have never got the parking brake to work well. Haven't even tried in years...shut her off in gear.
Horse46 519 #3 Posted September 16, 2015 My drive is on a bit of slope, I only noticed the brake thing as it started going backwards toward my car

tramphardrocker 5 #5 Posted September 16, 2015 I also have a brake problem on my c125. The brake wheel spins freely on the shaft so applying the brake stops the wheel but the shaft still spins, not stopping the tractor. Is there a key that got sheared or is there something else going on?

Try cleaning the brake lining and drum with acetone to remove all the oils. Then adjust it as described in the manual. If that doesn't help, a new lining may be the answer. Is there a key that got sheared or is there something else going on? The brake drum on the C-125 should be fixed to the shaft with a double-D configuration. No key-way or key, just flats on the inside of the drum and the shaft. You need to look closely at the shaft. Is the drum really spinning on the shaft or is the shaft spinning with the drum? If the shaft is spinning along with the drum, then you will have to open her up and see what's amiss inside. Edited September 16, 2015 by rmaynard
