jake22si 5 #1 Posted November 22, 2008 Whats better and faster for snow removal, working. I only have 2 8 speeds. I think I spelt it wrong.
jusjeepn 59 #2 Posted November 22, 2008 Hydro's definatly. forward reverse at the touch of a finger and the hydraulic lift is sssooooooo much better . The manual trans has better pushing power in heavy wet snow. I guess it's a toss up. :hide:
linen beige 14 #3 Posted November 22, 2008 I have plows for four of my tractors. The 702 and the 1054A are both manual trannys with hydro lifts. The Charger 9 is a hydro with manual lift (Five minutes into "evaluating" it for plow duty told me the manual lift is not for me.) and the D-160 is hydro with hydro lift. The manual trannys are my favorite. The hydro trannys seem to rob power from the engine. Of course the 702 won't move as much volume as the big D, but the 1054A will. For some reason though, I just naturally go to the 702 when we do get a rare snow. But to answer your question I think the more powerful C-125 would be the obvious answer. Teddy da Bear 11 #4 Posted November 22, 2008 Actually there is an owners manual for example for my C-195. And it also covers all the black hood B's & C's as well. There is a chart in the manual that rates all the ground speeds of all the various tractor models in 8 speed and hydro. Very interesting. Unfortunately I think mine is the slowest... I wonder if other owner manuals are like that?
dgjks6 6 #5 Posted November 22, 2008 I vote for 8 speed because that is all I have But it is slow - I have to plow in low (which I found out through process of elimination) - and forward is not bad, but reverse low is S...L...O...W. So if I don't want to shift between hi and low alot - which I don't because it is a pain - then I would probably say a hyro would be faster.
nylyon-(Admin) 7,122 #6 Posted November 22, 2008 I plow with an 8-speed, but the blower is on an automatic. My logic is that the 8-speed will give a good consistant speed for the plow, but the automatic for the blower where you could use more variation. The hydraulic lift on the hydro is also nice for the blower.
Curmudgeon 28 #7 Posted November 25, 2008 Depends on: The amount of snow The moisture content of the snow The length and width of your driveway Which tractor you have Snowthrower or blade But mostly, How much you like being out in the cold
