kudzu3 323 #1 Posted September 14, 2015 When the parking brake on my '69 charger is engaged, it will still roll, and clicks. Is there a way to adjust the brake? I can't find a service manual, only an owners manual, but it doesn't address this. Thanks
rmaynard 16,291 #2 Posted September 14, 2015 The parking brake pawl inside the gear case is worn or broken, probably due to someone engaging the brake while the tractor was moving. There is no adjustment, and I don't know if there are parts available to repair it.
kudzu3 323 #3 Posted September 14, 2015 I was kinda thinking something like that, since I couldn't find any adjustment. Guess I'll just learn to live without it. Thanks Bob.
Ed Kennell 41,802 #4 Posted September 14, 2015 Let's hope those broken pawl pieces don't find their way to a bad place. BTW Kudzu, How bad is the kudzu in your area. I drove the Skyline Drive through Va. last year and some places it was downright scary.
oldredrider 2,553 #5 Posted September 14, 2015 The parking pawl can be repaired. Remove the pump and motor as a unit and you can gain access to it through the transaxle case. Remove the parking pawl and have it welded back up as it should be. Install it and you're back in business. It feels good when it works again. You will need to replace the gasket between the motor and transaxle.
pfrederi 18,638 #6 Posted September 14, 2015 The clicking is the parking pawl bouncing off the gear shaving off bits of metal...not good for hydros. #1 do not engage it and let it roll. #2 have you changed the filter lately? Yes it is repairable and cleaning teh suction screen would be a good idea while you have the rear end separated
953 nut 59,790 #7 Posted September 15, 2015 Meadflower did a thread on the GT-14 trans axle a few years back that covers the entire job. It is just what Oldredrider was telling you about.
