ronhatch 406 #1 Posted September 12, 2015 (edited) I have an older - maybe 1970 or so - 42" SD deck that has a spindle with a broken 1/4" harden tension drive pin. How in the heck do I remove it so I can install a new pin? I pulled the drive hub from the shaft, thinking that the 1/4" holes went all the way threw, so I could punch the broken pin out from the back side of the hub. But as you know, that's not the case. What's the solution? The other pin is still there, but I want to fix it right. Also, what grade of 3/8" bolt should I use to hold on the blades? Grade 5 or 8? Thanks! slammer302 2,156 #2 Posted September 12, 2015 (edited) If i'm thinking of the same thing your talking about you should be ok leaving it alone as the decks got newer they stopped using the two pins and just went with the hole and bolt holding it on. I wouldn't be concerned with the missing pin if they stopped using them in the later models.Thank you for the help gentlemen. Now on to my next project; Removing the deck wheels and installing a full length roller across the back of the deck. I think 9" or 12" long X 2 1/2" diameter boat trailer rollers will work great.
