djohn24 10 #1 Posted September 11, 2015 Looking for some input on this. Watching a 520H on ebay for auction. Got a model number from seller and he was able to give me this... # 41200e01. Based on what I have learned through the forums in here ,the e01, is indicating a 1988 model? The 520H has a 60 inch deck on it and a swept front axle. I was thinking only the 520 HC model for 88 & 89 had the swept front axle. And the swept front axle didn't come out on the 520H model till 1990 and above? bmsgaffer 2,053 #2 Posted September 11, 2015 (edited) That model shows up as a 1990 model (there are no codes in the tag that reliably tell year alone). It would be typed in as 41-20OE01.It would have swept axle but no gear reduction steering. Edited September 11, 2015 by bmsgaffer
shallowwatersailor 3,214 #3 Posted September 11, 2015 You're correct about the 520-HC having the swept axle and capable of using the 60" deck. The model number for a 1988 520-HC is: C1-20OE01
cleat 7,257 #4 Posted September 11, 2015 Swept axle with no reduction is what my HC has. Works great, not quite as easy as the reduction but quicker and has next to no play.Trying to get all the play out of reduction steering is very difficult.Still steers easier than the old non swept setup.just my 0.02Cleat
RMCIII 838 #5 Posted September 11, 2015 Just my 0.02 but I would let that go. There are many great finds of 520's on CL and other sites that are much less than that.RMC
cleat 7,257 #6 Posted September 12, 2015 I have never paid over 600 for one yet, so yes if it the one I thought I saw a couple of days ago for almost 2000 then yes that is too much.
djohn24 10 #7 Posted September 12, 2015 Thank you for the info men. Cleat, this wouldn't be the same 520. The bid is at 910 at the moment. Not sure if RMCIII is referring to the same one though. The deck appears to be in very good condition in my opinion. Said it has 1796hrs! so I ask the seller for a compression test and it is 102 in the front and 100 in the rear. I thought that seemed good for that amount of hours. I was thinking at the current bid it would be worth it but not to much higher.

cheesegrader 433 #9 Posted September 12, 2015 TIres will run $3-400Tension knob on the mule drive is missingFuel filter is not correct, and hydro filter looks to me like a cheap oil filter.1800 hours is near the life expectancy for the engine.Current bid is well over what I would pay. djohn24 10 #10 Posted September 12, 2015 Good points Cheesegrader! I should have noticed that hitch pin instead of a knob. I think I will take the advice I have gotten and let it go.
