FrankF 2 #1 Posted August 17, 2015 I have a D-160 that I'm thinking about selling. Have a couple guys interested, but I'm not sure about pricing. Tried to find comparable tractors, but there are very few D series listed anywhere. Are these tractors rare, or undesirable, or both? I'd like to put a price on it that would be fair to everyone. Any ideas on where to get this info? Ebay is all over the map - price wise. Thanks for looking
"D"- Man 827 #2 Posted August 17, 2015 (edited) Frank, you have certainly posted your inquiry in the right place, in order to get the info you desire; however, it is evident that posting a bit more info will return a more accurate answer. Specifically, How does the engine run, Smoke? Knock? What about the Hydro? While butted up against a fixed object {such as a tree, and without chains} will it spin the rear tires? Are the 3 Point Hitch and Dozer / Snow Plow included? Do you have a deck that is going to be included? How tight is the steering? Ect... Mark. pfrederi 18,670 #3 Posted August 18, 2015 They are not rare, the are desirable if they work well but are harder to work on. Engine parts are harder to come by and the hydro may have issues. Problems in either area will greatly reduce price. See 23 Autos comments above about testing
pacer 3,177 #4 Posted August 18, 2015 As 23auto said it would be a great help if you could give more info....FWIW down here in La WH's are pretty rare and where you are they are much more plentiful and of course that makes a big difference. I recently bought a 18auto (first of the D series) and also a D-200. I paid $300 for the 18auto and $400 for the D-200, both with good decks. neither running but decent in appearance. 18auto steering was bad and 3 point broke, hence the $300. The D-200 had nothing visibly wrong so I gave $400.In your pictures it appears you have either the Kohler 18hp or the 20hp engine in your D, do you know if that was an engine swap? Wasnt aware the 16's had the Kohler twins, only had the 16 Kohler single cyl or a Onan.
FrankF 2 #5 Posted August 18, 2015 Thanks for all the replies!I bought this new in 1978 & has always been stored inside. It has about 20 hours on it since the hyd. pump was professionally rebuilt, 18 hp Onan was put in at the same time. The 18 was fairly fresh at that time, no smoke, no knocks. Has been stored for the last 15 years, but started at least once a month. I think it vibrates when running, maybe due to misalignment? All the hyd. & 3 pt/mid lift work great. I pushed dirt last year & both wheels (with chains) will spin if the load can't be moved. There is a slight leak in the hyd. manifold. Will include blade, 3 pt., deck and blower. Deck & blower are 48", both need TLC. 3 of the tires are originals. Steering is a little loose. Hyd. drive needs adjusting. Needs new brake.Would also include original engine block & some extras. Always wanted to restore, but now that I have the time, don't have the $$, ambition or place.
