gsummers 236 #1 Posted August 16, 2015 Picked up a 314-8 today, nice shape, 430 hrs, but it has sat for almost a year, starts up nice then after 5-10 minutes starts surging, .Rpms up and down, play with the carb a little, smooths out for a while, then starts surging again. Dropped the bowl and cleaned out a small amount of sediment. now it starts up fine and then starts flooding out, blowing gas out the carb. I pulled the carb off and am going to take it to an old Wheel Horse dealer that is still in business and have them clean an rebuild it. Any other ideas what it might be? doc724 924 #3 Posted August 16, 2015 the float needs to be adjusted so that it closes off the small valve inside. A piece of debris may be under the valve. Buy a rebuilt kit for $12. There is a youtube video that shows how to rebuild it.
Wheel-N-It 2,967 #4 Posted August 16, 2015 Had a simililarproblem. There was a piece of trash caught between the needle and the seat. Remove the needle and blow through the gas intake of the carb to clear the seat
