SB 421 or not

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. I have a chance to pick up a WH SB421 in my area for $200 my question is are they worth it or should hold off and find something else. The 421 has a blade and ball hitch on it but missing the deck. I currently have 211A that has the hydro trans which is sweet and easy to work and i plan on keeping. The 421 though isnt hydro so i am not sure if i would care for that as i havent driven a non hydro one before.  If i get the 421 i would search for a deck which should t be to hard or is it? Also i am not sure of the reputation and performance of a 421 or whether or not $200 is a good deal for it. Let me know your thoughts and opinions.

Thank you guys kindly.

jay

If it's in decent shape, I don't think the price is too bad. The SB-421 is bascilly a 1978/79 C-Series tractor built in 1982, originally with a 42" deck and an 11 HP Briggs engine. The 8-speed transmission had a 4 pinion differential. Because it has the Tach-A-Matic hitch system, most all 1973 and later accessories will fit.

Wheel-N-It
Any running Wheel Horse with an attachment is worth $200 if you can put it to work and get some positive results from it.

I see working decks from 36" for $50 and 42" for $100 to maybe double that if they are real nice.  You didn't say what "blade" but I think most any blade is worth $75 and up!  If she starts, runs good and looks halfway decent needs nothing more I'd buy it just to play in the snow and dirt!  Add a deck and you have an all season machine!

You could also search this site for SB421 and SB-421 for quite a bit more info.
