K301 Flywheel Screen Alignment?

Recommended Posts

cdsl810

So... The C-125 Auto I just picked up has a strange misalignment of the flywheel screen. I have had the shroud off 3 times double-checking the alignment and positioning of the shroud. It is exactly where it is supposed to be. I just can't get the flywheel screen to line up in the opening properly. It actually rubs on the short side sometimes. Take a look at the picture and see what you think. Is there another way to line the shroud and flywheel up? BTW, the shroud has no evidence that it is bent or out-of-shape.

I would remove the screen and look to make sure that the flywheel is centered in the opening of the cover. If it's not, there is a problem with the cover. If it is centered, then I would find another screen.

I would be t that cover is tweaked. I had the same issue on a C-145. It was fine before I took thinks apart for paint. but it rubbed when it went back on. Some how the shroud got out of round at the bottom. A lot of trial and error cured it.

Just a thought, could the mesh cover be from a smaller motor? I know the top engine cover is different on my 16hp to the 10hp, could the engine covers n mesh be different?

The cover is the original. The engine ID and serial number match the tractor (unless the PO took another cover from the same model tractor and year). It was painted at some point, and it could be out of shape somehow, but the opening is still a perfect circle. It is lined up and seated  properly (after a couple tries). It is tricky.

I will check to make sure the flywheel is exactly centered in the opening. If not, it looks like I will have to gently bend the cover back into shape.
