32" mower deck

Recommended Posts

Ok, I now realize that finding a RM 3261 32" mower deck for an RJ58 and 1960 Suburban 400 is like trying to get your hands on the holy grail. Has anyone built their own from spec.? I have my suburban completed and am working on my RJ and would like to have a deck for them. If anyone would have a set of schematics for this deck I would love to take a look at them.

I've got mine in pieces.  I can take pictures and measurements for you.

Heading out for the night now, but can take care of this tomorrow.

They are very simple.  You could easily build one.

Actually I need the measurements of all parts of the deck so that I can fabricate one at home. but thank you for your help.

Here is what I have.  The deck, carrier linkage, and clutch engagement could all be easily made.  It's all flat stock, round stock, angle iron, and sheet metal.

You would need to find a 32 inch gear drive, cross shaft and gears, pair of gear covers and a pair of deck guards for the end.  I have a 66 lawn ranger and all the mentioned parts are interchangeable with the RM-3261 and much easier to find.  I believe any '60s models 32 inch rear discharge decks would supply the needed moving parts.

I've supplied the basic deck measurements in the pictures below.  If you need more specific numbers....let me know.

As for the deck....

Deck box is 29.75 inches without the bump outs.

Dimension between the round bars is 31 7/8 inches.
Outside dimension of round bars is 32 5/8 inches.

I would think a box that is just 32 5/8 wide would eliminate the need for the side openings and would work just fine.

Clutch engagement spring goes from rear pivot down to rear of deck pulling idler pulley backward when the clutch pedal lock is released.

There is a second spring that goes from a welded bracket in the center of the deck up to the bottom of the tractor to help the deck "float".  I don't believe the spring in the picture is the correct spring.

Part two of the front hanger bracket attaches to the lift arm.  Wing nut is the deck height adjuster.  Sits on top of the tractor frame.

Here is a picture of a mostly complete assembled version.

Nope, not even close. I thought maybe some of the hardware was compatible, but no such luck

I realize that this thread is a few years old now but I am stuck in a jam and looking for blades for a deck that i picked up this last year while restoring my old 400. Does anyone know a location of a repop or have found a supply of these blades still? LH and RH blades needed one pair or a few pairs

32" deck with a left and right blade? Toro is the only source I am aware of.

There is a 36" width of cut also.

Model number RMR-3261 listed as RM-3261 in places.
Drive belt 1561 (1/2" x 30")

8777 2-blade set replaces 3719, 7760 and 7909 left blades and 3718, 7761 and 7908 right blades
