A couple of identification questions

I was driving the other day and saw a white WH with red trim, is this a stock color? First I have seen anywhere.

The main question I had was what is a Toro 17-44 HXL? Does it have any resemblance to a WH, or is it just Toro junk?

I don't know about your second question...sorry.
I can throw this out there though concerning the white horse.  While it may not be stock, some horses exist that came in colors of yellow (like Catapillar), army green, orange etc.  It would take the army, or a municipality to order an amount of horses and they would request the color and South Bend would indeed fill the order.  It would be excellent if you could track this horse down and ask about it's history.  :)

Well, I just saw a lady mowing on it while driving by. I'm not even sure what house it was, as I was looking at the tractor. :)

I'll keep an eye out every time I drive by, and if I ever see it again, I'll stop. Hopefully, she doesn't mace me. or worse. :)

Second Question: It is a Toro Lawn Tractor produced from 1999-2004. It has a B&S vertical engine and a Hydro Gear transaxle. It is still better than the tractors from 1995-on that were sourced from MTD.

Could it have been one of these? This is my GT1600 (modified).

WHX??
:text-yeahthat:  Later Toro branded horses had model nos like that. 17-44HXL 17 meaning 17 HP (almost all Toro branded vertical Briggs) with a 44" deck. H = hydro. no idea what XL is for. Actually these weren't bad little tractors for the money. Couldn't do much more with them than mow & bag. Certainly not like most of the horses here, decks weren't meant to be taken off and other attachments put on pretty much just for mowing. They do cut a mean head of lawn tho. When I met my wife she had gotten a 16-38HXL in a divorce which I kinda scoffed at along side my REAL WH's at the time. Turns out it often is my go to machine for a quick cut, bagging clippings for the garden or pulling tubs around  for chores, especially if one of the real horses is hobbled and awaiting parts. I have no idea if her's were sourced from mtd or not, think its about a 2002.

Maybe some one painted it white to propose to his gal...ya know ride up on a white horse....:ROTF: Edited by WHX4

Exactly as Steve said. Many years ago (late 70's-early 80's??) I got to tour the plant and saw maybe 20 yellow tractors ready to go. They told me that they were a special order. The white one you saw certainly wasn't a stock item and probably was just painted that way by an owner but who knows, it could be one of a special order. Wouldn't that be cool?

The picture on my screen is pretty close to accurate.  it is not white, but it is not GREY either...it is kind of an "Egg Shell"...that is...no brown (which would give it an almond hint).  :)
