hydraulic fluid or oil

Just purchase a Wheel horse 520h.  I was checking the fluids and there was no fluid in the hydraulics reservoir.  I have been cruising around the wheelhorse forum web site reading some comments about using oil/hydraulic fluid and I am not sure what type of fluid to put in the hydraulics reservoir now.  I want to use it for snow blowing in the winter if that makes a difference.

Are you referring to a reservoir with a black cap? Or the transaxle with a dipstick?

The model number would be helpful.
