slammer302 2,154 #1 Posted July 12, 2015 Well i guess its time for me to admit I need a horse with more power I've been using my B-60 for a year or two now and I've always thought it had plenty of power but sense i've been using it to help my brother mow his yard that is very big and has lots of hills i've realized the B-60 just don't have enough power. I have to mow in 1st gear most the time 2nd if i'm lucky and the little 36" rd just is not that big when you get out in a wide open area I love using it at home in my little in town yard but i think i'm going to look for something a little bigger like a 312 or 314. I would like to hear what you guys think about this decision

varosd 1,185 #3 Posted July 12, 2015 I grew up with my families 77 B-80 (still have it) but needed some big brothers so she could retire.my 88 520 was added and so it went...I will say that the newer style seats do put you "up in the air" a big more and on hills, using the B-80 made it seem less of an issue. slammer302 2,154 #4 Posted July 12, 2015 I'm trying to go look at a 314-H but the seller has not replied
Forest Road 594 #5 Posted July 12, 2015 You'll be happy w a 12 or 14hp tractor. The Hydros really are the way to go for mowing and snow blowing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
slammer302 2,154 #6 Posted July 12, 2015 thats what ive heard i don't have any Hydros in my heard yet hoping to add my first
varosd 1,185 #7 Posted July 12, 2015 just make sure it isn't the Eaton 700 hydro on the 314-A. the 314-H should be fine with the better Eaton 1100
tunahead72 2,346 #8 Posted July 12, 2015 The 312 and 314 should be able to handle up to a 48" deck with no problem. Personally, I'd also consider older versions of these tractors, like the C-xx5 and C-xx1 series, maybe even the C-xx0. Are you planning to use this same tractor on your own property, or just your brother's?
slammer302 2,154 #9 Posted July 12, 2015 It will mainly be used for my brothers and helping my dad mow his property or I will buy it and tinker on it for awhile then make my brother buy it from me so i dont have help mow anymore. LOL
AMC RULES 36,957 #10 Posted July 12, 2015 (edited) Them hydro's are the perfect machine... for maintaining that small footprint piece of property. Once you get one, I'm betting your brother will stand no chance of buying it from you. Edited July 12, 2015 by AMC RULES
bowtieguy 334 #11 Posted July 13, 2015 Your brother would look good on my 520H w/60" deck!!!....yep, I've still got it in the Horse Barn....could be one of your "six" (trailer load)
Tankman 3,515 #12 Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) Bowtie Guy meant to say, "Any body would look good on a 520H with or without a 60" deck." Edited July 13, 2015 by Tankman
Wheel-N-It 2,967 #13 Posted July 13, 2015 If you are going to be mowing big yards with hills and such, I suggest you look for a twin cylinder wheel horse. This will be 16, 17, 18 or 20 horse power. Nice and smooth with plenty of power to spin a hydro and 48" deck.
