Tire question

Recommended Posts

rickinmemphis

I am redoing a 654 and am looking at tri-ribs for front tires.  Which do you folks think would look better. 4.0-8s or 3.5x8s. The bead seat on these rims is about 3.5.

Thanks

Rick:
For appearance; --- if the rear tires are a little narrow looking, like 6 or 7" wide, then the 3.5x8;  if you have wider lug tires on the rear, then the 4.0x8 would appear more in balance.
Always safest to have the correct width tire on the metal wheel, . . . making a "higher-speed tight turn" is really the only issue here, the rubber tire popping off the wheel, but then 4.0x8 size is still 98% as safe.
Smart to consider adding a little weight up front too, to reduce any chance of a "wheelie".
