WHX??

Shame on you...I guess I don't get it either,I mean I do but I don't. ..I fairly new here and i know i need to educated more but I got the feeling  that wholdguy was just possibly trying to turn some guys on to a possible nice score? Rules are rules I guess. My question, casual observer, is there a way that he could have let fellow members known about this without violation  of the rules?

Nope. It comes from the problems that arise from posting links to Craigslist or ebay ads mostly. We used to allow it, and generally it caused more hatred and flaming between members than it did to help someone get that big score they were looking for. There were cases of someone posting a link to a great tractor deal they were interested in, only to have another member go behind their back and offer a little more money and snipe the deal. Or some "helpful" people email that seller and let them know they're selling it too cheap and now the seller won't deal with you because "they heard" it was worth a lot more.  Real life, yes, maybe, but it's a shitty way for members of a small community to act toward each other. There have also been cases of people posting links of something just to make fun of it because the seller might not know what they really have, or have grossly overpriced an item.  First, this comes down to just plain old bully mentality. I teach my children that such behavior is inappropriate, why should I expect less of people I consider to be my peers? Second, the internet is a big place. You very well could be insulting a member or even a non-member here who might happen by looking for help on that or any other sale.

Many other forums have a topic just for posting things that someone "found" on the internet. It has been discussed many times, and it always comes back to.....We're all here... in an online forum, on the internet. We've all managed to find our way here, and well.. ebay and craigslist are even easier to find.   We are all quite capable and most likely already are checking out ebay and our local craigslist listings daily for "wheelhorse" "wheel horse" and "whell horse" (and whatever other boolean string you want to put together.) Most people are also quite aware of any online listings for local auctions in their area, so to keep it simple, we just don't allow those links here like many other sites do.
