snorky 29 3 #1 Posted June 18, 2015 hello i have set my throttle \ governor as per a video on youtube by “crazy for wheel horses” on my wheelhorse commando ...what i find is that the governor is battling against my manual throttle control ...i will accelerate ...but the governor tries hard to reduce my rpm ..im not trying to over rev the engine it happens from idle upwards ....if i set the throttle mid range the engine tone is quite lumpy ..not a smooth pur as the governor pushes hard to reduce rpm .....any ideas Neil
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,510 #2 Posted June 18, 2015 (edited) That is the way governors work. Your throttle cable pulls on the spring which pulls on the governor arm to increase rpm. The governor tries to reduce the rpm. The balance of these two forces is the rpm you end up with.Sounds like your throttle cable does not have the ability to stay where you put it because of the spring tension. If it is controlled by a lever on the dash the lever pivot needs to be tightened. The pivot is often a rivet that you can pinch tighter to increase the holding ability. I replace mine with a shortened bolt, flat washers and a Nylock nut so I can reach in with two wrenches and adjust the tension as needed. Use a bolt with enough unthreaded shank so the moving parts (lever) are positioned over the unthreaded portion of the bolt. That way the lever does not wear in use. If this is not what your throttle control is like let us know. The engine surge may be corrected with mixture adjustments but wait till you get the throttle cable to stay where you put it while running. What is the tractor model?Garry Edited June 18, 2015 by gwest_ca
snorky 29 3 #3 Posted June 18, 2015 cheers Gary , it is a Commando 4 speed ....if this is how it is to work that,s great , i will also tighten the throttle lever \ linkage....just did not want to put excess pressure on the engine Regards Neil
Fordiesel69 271 #4 Posted June 18, 2015 Please make a video, a lot of us can hear the engine sound and tell if the speed is acceptable and if it is working correct.
