WNYPCRepair 1,923 #1 Posted June 17, 2015 (edited) Is it normal for the forward/reverse lever (for lack of the proper term) to be hard to find forward and reverse? I had the dash apart today for a broken throttle cable, and it seemed to work fairly smoothly through the offset pattern. Put it all back together, and it is once again sloppy, and sometimes really hard to get into forward. It almost seems like the spring isn't popping the shaft back up, or the shaft is just sticking in the down position. This is the one mounted below the steering wheel Edited June 17, 2015 by WNYPCRepair
Ken B 3,189 #2 Posted June 18, 2015 I have never liked the location of the DCL (directional control lever) under the steering wheel. Most tractors with this setup that I have ridden seemed all goofed up in some way or another. If you really like the tractor I would purchase the hydro foot pedal kit from Matt in the vendor section..
Red-Bovine 334 #3 Posted June 18, 2015 There is an up and down detent to move the lever to prevent moving into the opposite direction too quickly. Possible something was not put together correctly. I converted our 520H to Matt's foot control and love it. Ditch that steering column lever.Red
WNYPCRepair 1,923 #4 Posted June 18, 2015 I will, but Matt has suspended orders for the time being
WHX?? 51,744 #5 Posted June 18, 2015 Lube the shaft where the spring rides ... I used some spray lithium grease , and check the linkages. I'll take & post some pics of what i did for that annoying under the wheel shift, real easy and alot better till you score a foot kit.

WHX?? 51,744 #7 Posted June 18, 2015 Material list is real extensive for this...12" piece of 1/2" threaded rod1/2" threaded rod coupling1/2 nutshort piece of tubeing 1/2" id optionalPuts the DCL knob right up by the rim of the wheel so you don't have to take your hands off the wheel to operate.I heated the rod up to get that bend in itI slid the tube on just to protect my delicate hands from the edges of the rodnext best thing than a foot control
WNYPCRepair 1,923 #8 Posted June 18, 2015 I don't have an issue with where it is, my issue is trying to get it into forward. it's sticking.
WNYPCRepair 1,923 #9 Posted June 21, 2015 I figured this out today, I think. It appears the brake pedal isn't returning all the way. If I pull up on the pedal, it shifts fine. I'll dig into it tomorrow
bmsgaffer 2,053 #10 Posted June 21, 2015 Brake return spring is broken or missing. Same problem I had with mine!

WNYPCRepair 1,923 #12 Posted August 1, 2015 Brake return spring is broken or missing. Same problem I had with mine! It was missing. Finally installed a new spring today, and it works great. As a side note, whoever invented roll pins should be shot. How the heck do you get thos things out? I would love to remove the parking brake knob, but even drilling it out didn't work
cleat 7,257 #13 Posted August 1, 2015 Moving the parking brake knob to the side was another Toro change. The old original wheelhorse way of a simple piece of square keystock up through the tunnel cover works great and there is no silly small roll pin to deal with.I have switched mine all back to this way.Cleat
