Was there ever such an animal?  Am in contact with a seller claiming to offer one.

Yes, they are one of the best mowing decks. Not to heavy but not to light. I used one for 17 years to mow 3 acres. Good luck!

I don't think they ever offered a 48" rear discharge. 42"s were both side and rear, but 48"s were side only. Easiest way to distinguish between the two is where the mower height adjustment lever is. 42"s were on the right, 48"s were on the left.

I'm thinking like Brian and tbarnhart. I've never seen a 48" RD.

I have never seen a RD 48 in person or for sale.  Just 36,37? and 42.

Thanks guys.  I thought I was right to tell the guy he was full of grass clips.

Just to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, he may have been measuring his deck incorrectly, measuring the overall width instead of the actual cutting width. Just a thought.

Ditto. Never saw a RD 48" deck. 42's yes, 48's no.

Thanks guys .  I might have gotten to the bottom (pun) of the matter
if they guy were not so insistent that his deck was as advertised.
