Hurley1 25 #1 Posted June 13, 2015 I ran out of gas on my 1996 Wheelhorse 520h. I put gas in it....now it won't start. I took the cover off the fuel pump checked the dirafram. It's good. Any advice you guys can give me on priming the pump?thanks Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Don1977 605 #2 Posted June 13, 2015 I have had to take the gas line loose from the bottom of the pump and hold it down to get gas in the line. Then put it back on the pump to get it started. I found the pump to be weak and replaced it because one of the check valve seal was broken. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

oldredrider 2,553 #4 Posted June 13, 2015 The easiest way I've found to reprime is to use compressed air. After filling the gas tank, put a funnel in the tank opening and use an air nozzle to give it a quick blast of air. Works every time. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Hurley1 25 #5 Posted June 13, 2015 No...I haven't tried starting fluid. But when I took the cover off the fuel pump to check the diaframe. I did turn the key to the run position...just to see if gas would flow. And it did. And my filter also has gas in it. This happened late last night. I have to take my granddaughter home. Hurley1 25 #7 Posted June 13, 2015 Sorry guy's false alarm! Yesterday I started to fix a hydraulic leak at the dip stick. Then some rain clouds moved in.....I quickly put everything back together and pulled it in the garage. Then went back to work on restoring a 520h for my son. Ole "Grandpa" forgot to turn the gas back on. Once I did that....she fired right up and purred like she should. But I really want to thank all the knowledgeable advice that was given. I replaced the coil , plug wires crank position sensor, spark plugs and key switch on my Can Am only to find out the kill switch had been off . WHnoob 21 #10 Posted October 8, 2015 I realize this is an old thread but I was recently able to reprime a Bolens tractor by sealing the fuel cap opening with my hand and squeezing the plastic fuel tank. It had been sitting for a few years and has a complex fuel hose routing (tank under seat) such that it was unable to prime itself even running on starting fluid. Squeezing the tank provided enough pressure to force some fuel up to the pump/carb and get it running. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
