Rob R 970 #1 Posted June 6, 2015 (edited) I have a solid rock back wall on my property dating back to the Revolutionary Period, I always wanted a passage and space to get a tractor up into the woods... so today was the day to try an old way to remove rock .... to be honest I was surprised on how well it worked and how quickly.... Key to get a really hot fire going.... Edited June 6, 2015 by rgrottk
tunahead72 2,518 #3 Posted June 7, 2015 Wow, that's impressive! I had no idea such a thing would work. I'm guessing success depends on what kind of rock you're dealing with, any idea what yours is?
Rob R 970 #4 Posted June 7, 2015 I'm not a rock expert but is sure looked granite like inside..... I also was surprised as I mentioned you really need to build a hot fire and prior to starting get as much dirt around the rock moved out then build the fire all around the rock. After about an hour fissures will appear then hit it with a good size sledge hammer and pry the fissures with a wedge and they pop right open. Three hours and it was all done.
