kudzu3 323 #1 Posted June 6, 2015 I think I need to de-carbon the top and head in my 10 hp Tecumseh but just not sure about a few things. How do I seal the valve ports to keep "stuff" out? Is diesel fuel and a plastic scraper a good way to remove the stuff? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
boovuc 1,090 #2 Posted June 6, 2015 On my Onans, I used big gobs of Vaseline around the valves and the cyl head to combustion chamber to keep crap out. You can use brake fluid but i actually used a citrus cleaner to loosen then scrap with a plastic blade. It worked as well as brake fluid and much easier on your health and work bench. On stubborn deposits, I put MEK on a rag and rubbed directly on it until it loosened up.(MEK is Methylethyl Either). Lowes or paint stores will carry it. Just don't saturate the rag.
