1996 416-H stalled and won't start back up. Help?

I have a 1996 416-H and I was mowing and it ran out of gas. So I filled it up and then it wouldn't start back up. It was like the battery was stone dead. Nothing. So I checked the fuses. And nothing. I tried jiggling the fuses in the block and tried jiggling the big plug and nothing. There's power to the middle fuse. I'm not sure where to go next.

Any lights on the dash? Make sure the motion control lever is in the neutral position, and the PTO is off.

Nope. No lights no nothing. Like the battery's unhooked. But the battery's got 12.5 volts

Have you ever checked that all your dash lights work?

It sounds like a safety switch like Bob said. Please check the PTO is off (up position), your drive is in neutral, your parking brake is applied, and you are in the seat. When you are sure none of that is the cause (you never answered that part), then let us know and we will proceed.

12.5 volts is low. You may need a new battery soon, but if you dont hear even the slightest click then I doubt the battery is causing this issue.

Also, this may be a dumb question, but are you sure it ran out of gas? If there was an electrical fault it could have killed the engine as well.

The dash lights worked. And it's like the battery's disconnected. Absolutely nothing no lights or gauges. And when it stalled it didn't have any gas. So I assumed that's why it stalled

Check the battery for voltage, make sure that both leads coming off the battery are securely attached. If you have a 12V test light, it'll come in very handy chasing the power from the battery on back.

Here's the link to the manuals with electrical diagram.

Work your way back from the battery checking voltage at the components. In briefly looking at it, the battery goes directly to the starter, ignition switch and test lamps with a 25A fuse between the battery and switch.  Again, from the looks of it, if your indicator lights used to work and now they do not, it's a short list of things which it can be (according to the diagram)
