jeff lary 173 #1 Posted May 3, 2015 Hi all hope your weather is as nice as it is here in Central Maine today we have sunny sky's and 77 *. I have an original 37" deck I have owned since new and the wheels are in pretty bad shape. I am talking about the steel centered with rubber wheels. One measures 5" and the other measures 5 1/2 or so +/- I am guessing they should be 6" but not really sure. I saw some at Lowes last week for small money I think less than $10.00? Can anyone tell me what size they should be? mine are badly worn. I would like to buy some oem ones with grease fittings like the ones I have now maybe but I bet they are 20 bucks each. My Model number is 78315 Serial number is 6900113 deck is 37" . Thanks Jeff

clueless 3,257 #5 Posted May 5, 2015 Buy the $20.00 oems and you'll get another 25 years out of them. Buy the $10.00 ones and plan on replacing them ever few years, been there done that. Chris in Florida.
jeff lary 173 #6 Posted May 5, 2015 (edited) I was thinking the same thing, last evening i spent some time on line. Prices vary 18- 22 bucks per wheel the kicker is shipping $ 13.00 minimum. So at $20 per wheel x 2 and $13.00 shipping thats $ 53 .00 min for 2. Or 26 each i bet can buy them local cheaper than that. I should also get the 2 plastic wheels up front one is long and oval and i cant remember the shape of the other. I will call my old dealer to see wah he can do i think. jeff lary 173 #7 Posted May 5, 2015 No time like the present i tried to edit the above but guess i lost connectin for a bit, i am on a job site. I just called my dealer and he has all 4 wheels in stock $53.00 i think he said? maybe he said 63 who knows. Anyway after we get back from our trip i am heading down to pick them up. He is a pretty good fella to deal with he stocks a bunch of stuff , he has had the same tech since the early 80s too.
clueless 3,257 #8 Posted May 6, 2015 Jeff, replacing all four is the way to go, also replace the two shoulder bolts that go though the back wheels. While you have the deck off check where it is bolted to the carriage usually right front (sitting on tractor) for cracks. Chris.
jeff lary 173 #9 Posted May 6, 2015 Cracks oily smoke man i been welding cracks since 1962 . No it does have some cracks and my sone ran it aground a fw times and the blades sawed their way out through the front a couple times too. So that has been patched as well. I was wondering the other day if the deck ever went to pieces what do you do then? Can you stiil buy a replacement one if needed?
bmsgaffer 2,053 #10 Posted May 6, 2015 I think you can still buy new ones, but the price (over $700 if I recall correctly) will send you heading for the classifieds. Decks are plentiful and if you pay a bit more you can usually find a smooth running deck with no rust or holes. I've gotten a nice 42" this way and also I have a pristine 48" deck shell that I bought all new running gear for for a reasonable amount of money.
