tsmall07 49 #1 Posted April 28, 2015 So, I'm having a lot of difficulty finding a 50" grader blade to buy. I've found a couple but one guy decided not to sell and the other sold before I could make the trip to get it. I keep seeing the snow plows listed as "dozer blades". Do these things work ok for pushing dirt? Anyone have experience with dirt projects? Pics and/or videos of one in action would be great. Thanks in advance. bmsgaffer 2,053 #2 Posted April 28, 2015 Yea they work great for it. I have pushed a lot of dirt and gravel with the front blade, they are definitely rated for it. The only issue is that the "final level" is better left to the mid mount because the front blades tend to twist a little so its hard to find a good level. But by all means, go for it! Pro Tip: have a second one you dedicate to snow removal or just sand and paint the face a couple months before snow season. Smooth waxed paint makes the blade work much better for snow! tsmall07 49 #3 Posted April 28, 2015 Does the snow/dozer blade tilt for, say, carving a swale into my yard, or does it just pretty much stay flat and pivot side to side?
bmsgaffer 2,053 #4 Posted April 28, 2015 It tilts, but its not under your control... Seriously though, it is not designed to tilt so I would consider it flat... But the frame that goes all the way back to the axle flexes a bit so thats why I was saying you cant always get it "flat" It would be interesting though to modify it to tilt on purpose! gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,509 #5 Posted April 28, 2015 Just an observation when working with the manuals - Lighter lawn tractors with vertical shaft engines use a snow blade Heavier garden tractors with horizontal shaft engines use a dozer blade even though many of the parts are the same.
