Look what followed me home today

Wasn't really in the market for another, but this deal was too good to pass up.  I was told it was an 1990 520H with a 60 inch deck.  Showing up I find that it's not a 60 inch deck....not sure of the actual size, as there are no tags I've found yet, but it measures roughly 52 inches from end to end, so I suppose it's a 48 inch.  I'd never seen one of these before, with the hydraulic lift and transmission levers on the column instead of on the floor.  Took a minute to get started, and runs a bit rough, but I'm 100% sure it's NOT the dreaded value seat as there doesn't seem to be excess combustion coming from the carburetor as was the issue with my 1989 520HC that I put a new value seat into.  Sounds more like a it's not getting great gas flow at times....will check the filter, pump, spark plugs etc and go from there.  Also most of the instruments on the panel don't seem to work other than the battery/voltage gauge.  Only 530 hours on the engine, if the number on the panel is accurate.  Anyway, going to spend the next few weeks changing fluids, checking hoses/belts etc, but I think I'll have a good strong worker.  I do, however, have a few too many horses now, and may have to thin the herd a bit.  But I guess that's a good problem to have.  Anyway, the dropbox links shows pictures, and any comments/advice/thoughts would be appreciated.  Also confirmation of the year would be nice.  Thanks!

I can't even get stray dogs to follow me home! Nice machine. That is a 48" deck as you thought! There can be many thing that effect the gauges but I would check the fuses and look carefully at the fuse connection ends for signs of pitting and heat build up. very typical. You may want to just buy some new fuel line and a fuel filter and then you can cross out and fuel delivery to the pump out of the equation. I had a very tiny crack on my newer fuel line at the fuel pump intake of my 520-H after I changed motors and it made a big difference when I changed out the lines.

Yeah, will definitely replace all fuel lines and the filter.  The PO moved the filter behind the seat close to the tank....will move back to the proper spot between engine and fuel pump.  Great advice though.  rmaynard, thanks for the info....Good to know the year...it's newer than I thought!

Nice find!! So there are 2 filters at the tank right? Thats where the tranny filter is....

Looking at the pic of the backend I only see the transmission filter.

I meant the fuel filter.  The previous owner moved it and it's almost under the seat....it can't be seen from the rear picture I took.  I'm gonna move it back under the hood like it is on my other 520HC.  On it the fuel filter is between the engine and the pump, instead of between the pump and the gas tank.

I got it now :techie-eureka: I can see where the fuel filter is missing in the side pic.

Fuel lines replace, priority of course.

The fuel filter I have mine between the fuel tank and fuel pump, close to the pump. Don't want junque in the fuel pump.

Looks like my 48" deck, are you sure it's a 60"? I've been looking local for a 60 incher, no luck locally.

Keep us updated with your progress, noisy, When and if, decals are replaced get 'em from Terry! Great decals and no big "T" on 'em!   :laughing-rofl:

Yup, it's a 48 inch by measurement.  Was told it was a 60 in ad, but clearly wasn't when I showed up.  But it was still worth more than I paid for the total package.  :-)
