zekepiks 8 #1 Posted April 24, 2015 I bought a 161 8 spd to mount my ark loader on and it started and stopped when I bought it, then I started to fix it and I broke it , anyway it has a relay that is part of the starting circuit that looks like one of the old horn relays, if that relay doesn't have a good ground the tractor will not start so my old wheel horse dealer told me to replace it with the upgrade solid state kit and he said it had a instruction sheet in the bag,it doesn't. the kit is a 99-5365 relay kit that has a 12v 40amp relay and a harness that is in a bag marked 116703 that has 2 connectors other than the relay plug, I don't have any plugs to match up with it , one connector has a blue and a purple wire the other wire is orange and coming out of the relay plug is a black groud wire, I think. Because I don't have the matching connector plugs I'm going to have to cut the plastic connectors off and splice them together but I don't think the other wires are the same color, well, now that this is as clear as mud any help will be appreciated Skip Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,393 #2 Posted April 24, 2015 Perhaps this will explain it. Download This relay simply grounds the magneto ignition to stop the engine. The tractor uses a battery ignition switch to control the relay. Just make sure no battery power gets to the ignition wire in this process. That will smoke the ignition coil.
