Mower Deck belt help needed 518xi

Recommended Posts

cbul

I recieved a used Wheel Horse 518xi as a gift and the mower belt blew apart. Finding a part number or size seems almost impossible.

The deck when measured is 47" blade tip to blade tip. Now I understand that various decks could be installed on this but finding that number is also not found by me. This a three blade deck in good condition.....the belt is just hosed.

Tractor Model 73470

1998 from what I can tell.

518xi

I called Toro and was less than impressed with the help as they had no numbers to offer.

the old belt is about 101" long and a bit smaller than 1/2 wide.

Any help would be great

Thanks

Chris

Here are the choices for belts used with the 5xi-Series tractors mower decks.

  • 78353  42" Rear Discharge      Belt #95-4093
  • 78357  44" Side Discharge       Belt #95-4094
  • 78358  44" Recycler                 Belt # 95-4094
  • 78363  48" Side Discharge       Belt #95-4095
  • 78364  48" Recycler                 Belt #95-4095
  • 78370  52" Side Discharge       Belt #95-4094
  • 78375  52" Recycler                 Belt #95-4094
  • 78395  60" Side Discharge       Belt #95-4093

It sounds as if you have a 48" Side Discharge deck. I have both a 48" SD and 52" SD but they are outside and it is raining today. I can check mine tomorrow for you on the dimension that you gave.

Sounds like you need this file for you records

The D is the tractor details and the A is the attachment list which will give you all the model numbers.

Here is the illustrated parts list for the 48" side discharge deck

Operator manual

A search of the manuals using a model number should bring up more manuals. If not let us know and will get them posted.

This chart likely has the belt dimensions on the last pages of the file in two lists

That, I believe is a 48" Side Discharge. You can save belt wear by removing the belt guide at the front of the deck. A long-time WH dealer shared that hint with me.

If you have to order a belt, you might want to also check the condition of the belt that is under the covers on the deck.  This belt drives all of the cutting spindles.  A good inspection of the belt really requires that the cutting deck be removed from the tractor.  This  belt does tend to last longer than the drive belt that goes up to the engine.  From Toro, these belts are expensive, but the Toro belts do last for a long time.  Check Ebay using the toro part numbers, sometimes they pop up for sale there.  If removing the deck, it is a good time to grease the spindles using a grease gun, and check the condition of the blades.  Check the spindles for noise from the bearings, or side to side play.  If the bearings are noisy you want to replace them before they get to the point that it ruins the spindle shaft.  You can get bearings aftermarket such as NAPA.  The manual for the deck will explain how to remove and install the deck.  Spring is also a good time to grease all of the zerk fittings on the tractor.  The tractor owners manual will have this information in it.  Toro does have all the manuals for the tractor and attachments on their web site under customer support, and you can find them on this site as well as Gary indicated above.    That's some gift you got there, enjoy.
