Looking at a 252-H $500 ?

Recommended Posts

I am going to look at a 252-H tommorrow, they are asking $500. I am not familiar with the 200 series, guessing about mid '80'S ....Assuming it runs what should I be looking for? What's a good offer? I was thinking $375 if it runs? Than just loading it up and go. Figure parts would be worth that.

I am googling now....to find out more about the 200 series. Okay so thats a 88 or 89 with 12.5 HP Kawasaki. Vertical drive..Well it looks too clean for a parts tractor for sure. If it mow's, I can take a couple months to get my 520H refurbed..

Vertical engine = Lawn Tractor

Don't know anything about them, but I would think that there are limited attachments if any other than a mower deck.

Yeah not too many made, but it looks like it would be good mower, and use less gas than my 20HP Onan. Its in better shape than what I have. I won't offer too much...

Was wondering how those Kawi's have help up?

The 252H is probably 1988 or 89. Kawasaki engine is good. I have a 257H 17hp that with the 37" deck mowers the best by far of all my tractors. Watch out for the deck double pulley spindle as it is expensive to replace. The eaton 700 transmissions are great for mowing lawns too.

Pay what you feel it is worth.

The one you are looking at looks to be in nice shape.  I have one and I love it. Nice machine for mowing and it is a nice yard dog for pulling a lawn trailer around.  The number one machine in my line up is my 520HC for my big mowing jobs.  The number 2 machine in my line up is my 252H for mowing in tight places with a rear discharge deck and for general yard duty.   The Kawasaki engines are very highly rated.  Really nice 252H tractors are hard to find.  $375 would be very fair if you can get it for that.  Depending on condition I might even go $500.  It also has high ground clearance if you use it to pull a trailer through rough terrain.  Due to the high ground clearance, the mowing decks are not interchangeable with other 200 series decks without modifications.

I have a 212-6, has the same engine. I use it to plow/blow/cut grass, the engine never smoke, i have 892hours on mine. I would only recommend around $275. I use mine for light-duty blowing and plowing, I use my 520's for the big stuff. Good luck

Here is some 252H and some 257H eye candy and some price points.  I have a 252H and a 257H.  I like the high ground clearance and the hydro shift lever on the floor on these models.  For mowing and all around yard work, I like the quieter engine on the 252H versus the more powerful engine on the 257H.  In my opinion, these are the best of the 200 series.  They were only made in 1988 and 1989.

Here is the 252H that I paid about $230 for. It came with a deck but the deck was shot.  I adapted another 200 series 42 inch rear discharge deck to fit it.  The deck needed a higher pulley tower otherwise the belts will not line up and the belt will come off.  I love this thing.  I use it a lot.

Here is a 257H that I paid $500 for.  It only has 116 hours on it and it is in great condition. The seat is perfect.  It came with just the plow and was only used for plowing. I took the plow off and haven't used it much yet.

Looks like a better alternative to a current new box-store tractor! These use the Eaton 750/751 transmission, not the Eaton 700 as used in the 300/400-series tractors.

Thanks Folks! My wife and daughter saw it, and took the pics for me. I'll either call or go up and look at it. I have enough room for one more tractor... :) I'll start at $300 and go to $350. Thanks for the advice.
