car 24 #1 Posted April 4, 2015 Hi guys! I've found a nice, one owner, low hours 518xi for sale. I've owned 310 and 312 but never one this big. What can you tell me about the 518xi? One of my concerns is my wife is 5' tall will she be able to reach the peddal as it is a auto.I'll ask more questions later have to go now. Thanks!

shallowwatersailor 3,214 #3 Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) I moved the seat as far forward as it would go and had my wife, who is 5'2", try the seat. She actually needed to push it back a bit. No problem with reaching the pedal and releasing/setting the brake. I had forgotten that she actually drove my 518xi a few years ago with the Cyclone Rake attached which is 13' long when coupled together. No problem with handling it. doc724 925 #7 Posted April 5, 2015 You will love the xi machines. They are big, however and if your spouse has never used a hydro, it may take some getting use to. My wife refuses to mow with the xi since she has hit the shed once and the gate once. Those bumper covers are expensive! My solution was to get a 314 for her so she could mow. Implements are a bit hard to find, but they are out there.
car 24 #8 Posted April 5, 2015 Wow the 518 is gone even before I could look at it! I'll be looking at a 520 lxi today. So I guess my questions shift to what should I be aware of about the 520 lxi?
Forest Road 594 #9 Posted April 5, 2015 The Kawasaki liquid cooled motors had some issues with the cams and overheating. I know they made changes in later models. Not sure what year those changes were made. Personally I'd pay that for a running Xi regardless of motor. These tractors are built so well I wouldn't hesitate to drop a motor in one.
