Dhodge 528 #1 Posted April 2, 2015 I don't know how you guys go about restoring your horses, but I think I might be better off working on one at a time. Like I am sure most of you do. I seem to get three and sometimes four projects going at the same time. I work on one until I get to a point I have to wait for a part, search for a part, wait for paint or primer to dry and harden, etc. and I move over to another Wheel Horse project. Sometimes I even by a part off Ebay or someplace only to find that I already purchased that part earlier. Currently I am restoring a Tecky powered C-120 and a 400 Suburban at the same time. I can go from installing new piston, rod and rings one minute to painting a hood 10 minutes later. Meanwhile nothing around the house gets done because I'd rather work on something I enjoy rather than something that needs to be done. Anybody else have this sickness or is just me?
stevasaurus 23,276 #3 Posted April 2, 2015 Nope...I am a one project at a time kind of guy...and sometimes, I forget which project that is. My goal...get to where I can watch paint dry. At the moment, I am refinishing an old oak kitchen table and chairs. Waiting for the Tongue Oil to dry now. Just came down to the Man Cave to check out Red Square and get a glass of Rock & Rye. I know...we love pictures. The last picture is the next project. The next project...

Tankman 3,523 #7 Posted April 2, 2015 The to-do list is long but, changed oil, one Horse at a time. New fuel filters, one at a time the Stallions all have new ones. I do need a 12" deck, "Honest Hon, I'll fix the leaky faucet just as soon as I'm done mowin' the lawn."
shallowwatersailor 3,214 #8 Posted April 2, 2015 Just came back from buying dog food at TSC, along with a few things for me, and I see the banner for our local tractor show in 1-1/2 weeks! At this point I only have one WH and two Bee Hinds to display. It's the time of year to start cleaning up the property from the two fallen trees over winter and get the lawn revitalized before the weather turns hot and there are too many bugs. Siiting on the "bench" to complete is my MW Chor Trac that only needs to be reassembled, a Gravely that I rewired but haven't finished, and getting into "lawn mode" with oil changes. I normally have about two projects on at a time. There is also the deal that I cut with my wife last weekend that I would clean "a room a day" in the house. Trouble is - I'm four days in arrears already!
19richie66 17,633 #9 Posted April 2, 2015 Let's see....... Tile the closet, tear out and refurbish master bath, cabinets in the utility room, tile daughters room and both spare bedrooms, rescreen back porch, rebuild deck, somehow keep up with yard in between everything else, oh yeah, work on the tractors too. I'm amazed I get anything completed. Got to go out and finish the dresser/shoe rack for the wife..........

1989520HC 13 #11 Posted April 2, 2015 I know a guy who over a time period of maybe 30-40 years bought about 25 Model A Fords. Not one was driveable. He had them all inside. He would restore 25 starters. Then do 25 wiper motors and so on....Guess what he never finished.....NOT ONE CAR EVER!!!!! He is in a nursing home now....Sadly.... KC9KAS 4,744 #14 Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) I go to the garage to work on something...I walk across the room to find something and I stop and look at something else, I mess with it and forgot what I was after in the 1st place. I go back and forth for hours working my butt off and not getting anything done! I am the poster child for ADD! Edited April 3, 2015 by KC9KAS

stevebo-(Moderator) 8,532 #16 Posted April 3, 2015 I think one at a time is good but I seem to go with a few. I used to focus only on one project and get it done quickly then start on another. I seem to be slowing down a bit and find I am working on a few at a time. A lot has to do with room to work. I am fortunate that I now have more room. It allows me to take my time finding used parts etc.
stevasaurus 23,276 #17 Posted April 3, 2015 The secret...don't confuse projects with a "to do list". I think we all have a "to do list" that goes to the 1st star on the right and straight on until morning...Never, Never Land. I don't know...I just get more satisfaction out of finishing the thing I started, then I do having 2 or 3 things going at a time and nothing gets done. "The sun is going to rise...tomorrow. Take the time to watch paint dry." it is as good as going fishing.

Anything the wife ask you to do, most likely falls under to do list!
Wheel-N-It 2,976 #19 Posted April 4, 2015 Talk about too many projects at once!!! Thats me for sure. I've been MIA on RS because of it. Right now I am having the hall bath and hallway remodeled. Not just repainting and installing anew shower curtain either! Its been a total demolition of everything from the floor joist to the roof rafters. We have moved two walls, replaced the entire subfloor, cut out the old roof trusses, vaulted the ceiling in the bathroom, and raised the flat ceiling in the hallway plus widened the hallway. All the plumbing has been replaced, the toilet relocated, a new one piece shower stall with a seat installed, the new base cabinet is on order, all the ceilings are now tongue and groove beaded board, the walls all have wainscot with chair railing. There is a big piece of slate recessed in the floor in front of the shower and oak hardwood everywhere else in the bathroom and hallway. We built a new linen closet at the end of the hallway. Its a heck of alot of work for the amount of square feet. In the end though I know it will be worth all the effort The other project I'm working on at the same time is hauling logs and racking them up in a staging area to be cut into firewood. Right now I have at least two tractor trailer loads stacked up. These logs are left over from some commercial logging that was done on 40 acres of the property where I live. I'm hoping next Winter will be a cold one so the firewood business will be good. Oh, and I'm working a full time job too so right now I basically have no free time at all. I'm still planning to attend the Big Show this Summer. You'll know me when you see me. I'll be the totally worn out looking guy asleep in the lounge chair sitting next to Jay

Ken B 3,189 #21 Posted April 5, 2015 When I worked at the Chevy dealer I had 3 bays and three lifts to myself. At all times I had the three bays full, engine swap in one, head gasket job in another and always something going on in the other bay. Its just the way it was going to be if you wanted to make money working flat rate.. Since I left the automotive field that mentality has carried over into the way I do things and it has worked fairly well. I have noticed as I get a little older that way of doing things may no longer work for me... I'm very fortunate that my wife is very forgiving as I often neglect to work on the to do list!

Don1977 605 #23 Posted April 5, 2015 Never to many projects if it's relayed to tractors, tractor equipment, shop, or garage. Honey dues can get out of hand real quick.
